Nice looking batch - is that a part of your harvest?
I’ve been having a problem which I thought was a tooth problem, but realized today was just a gum problem.
Warm salt water swished around in the mouth made an enormous difference overnight. The old ideas still work - I remember when I was a kid, and had a horrible cold, the neighborhood doctor told my folks to make me sniff salt water up my nose, and spit it out. It works wonderfully.
I got interested in oregano for the same reason - supposed to be very good for mouth/gum issues; and with a lot of other benefits, for the essential oil, q.v.
We have several terraced beds that hubby built this year. So that took a lot of time. Not sure whether he is going to plant anything in them this year or not.
Today he was busy using the wood chipper on the limbs he trimmed off the trees that were hitting the roof on the house.
I wish I could remember what other peppers I have out there. Have to look tomorrow since I labeled some.
I don’t think they’re the Serrano peppers. Those seeds didn’t sprout. Maybe the 2nd batch did. 1 or 2 other kinds of pepper are in between the Sweet Snacking Peppers and the Green/Y/R/O pepper plants in that planter box.
When I made the last batch of beanie weenies. not only a good amount of BBQ sauce, ketchup, (didn’t do my brown sugar though) I added a few thinly-sliced Serrano’s for a small kick in the sweetness.
Can’t wait to put some of the frozen ones in with some wings one of these days. I’ve found every Tyson product except for the exact drumettes I used to buy. Got plenty of orange wing sauce though. And butter. And Louisiana Hot Sauce.
Lol! No. I wish I had a house with a backyard again. Did for about a year when I was married and living in Upstate New York. That was my only experience with growing things. I recall the cucumber tasting as sweet as watermelon! Fresh lettuce was terrific. Those were the only two things I attempted to grow. Well, that and, er, corn. If you can call that stuff I grew “corn”. Something went wrong with it, disease or something, and it was severely misshaped and weird looking. I didn’t even try eating it.
My corn is getting pretty tall, but no tassels yet. I delayed planting until the weather was warmer.
Hubby had zero luck with Walmart seeds. Ordered same product from Baker’s creek and they all did great.
Yes, I have a book about medicinal herbs somewhere around here. I read an article recently advising that brushing with a mixture of salt and baking soda was the best thing to do to prevent cavities and gum issues.
I make spiced tea with honey for sore throat and gargle salt water before bed. I read that honey was as effective as cough syrup with codeine.
My mom used to make a cough syrup out of whiskey, lemon juice, and rock candy. That stuff burned all the way down, but it sure stopped the cough.
I remember when wings were plentiful and cheap. Now they are priced higher than the meatier segments of chicken.
I can’t believe it’s Friday already and it sounds like the weather has improved for you and your garden. Our 27 year old grandson and his gal are getting married tomorrow afternoon in a former apple orchard that has been turned into a wedding venue just out of town aways. They had a dinner after the rehearsal this afternoon...
I love corn, but don’t grow much of it, because the doctor has restricted my carb intake. When I was a kid, my parents had a café. One day they had corn on the cobb for a veggie choice - ears cut in half like Long John Silver does.
Anyway, I ate 13 of those and wanted more. Dad wouldn’t let me - said I’d get sick.
I grow lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, and lemons indoors in the winter time in 6-10 inch pots.
That sounds lovely.
When you say you grow tomatoes indoors, how do you do that, exactly?
Need to get out this weekend and are if my Texas Devil Horns are up. Got a bunch of seeds disked in. Last year too wet and cool. Not enough 100+ days. Pods rotted off by August.
Want to find a way to sell them.
I put them in a container of potting mix. Set them in front of the sliding glass door that faces south west. When the sun sets, I turn on a grow light - full spectrum bulb until 8pm.
I use the grow light instead of the overhead lights for room lighting. They grow slower and a bit smaller than outdoors. I also give them a half dose of fertilizer once a month, since the pots are smaller than optimal.
My bucket garden is not doing very well. I don't know if I'm just not watering it enough or if there is something gone haywire some other way. Seeing as how there isn't any water nearby, and I have to refill buckets from the house back-and-forth-and-back-and-forth, it may be they just aren't getting watered enough. I did manage to get three little snap pea pods to pop out, and two little cherry tomatoes. My first garden ever, and it's true what 'they' say, that fresh grown tastes MUCH better than grocery stored!
I'm going to let these snap peas peter out, and then change my setup to be closer to water. Maybe hire someone to run me a water line out there, or something...
I just got in from a gig and it’s late here, but I did a lot of gardening today.
Mostly weeding and hoeing...wait...that doesn’t sound right! :-)
Did you put plenty of drainage holes in the bucket? I have killed more plants with too much water than I ever killed from too little water.
I watered my garden today with rainwater we catch from the roof in a swimming pool. Hubby put a connection in the pool close to the ground, and a splitter on it so that I all I have to do is turn the gizmo and gravity does the rest.
It sure beats hauling water which is what I used to do.
LOL. I pulled a few weeds today myself. I need to do something about the compost bin. It is too full and the bottom is kinda hard packed and having trouble getting the black gold out.
Need to take it off the rebar holders and sort it I guess. It really should be located in a sunnier place, I think.
