Citing pollution and threats to marine life, La Jolla's Herringbone and Searsucker in the Gaslamp and Del Mar pledge to end giving out the plastic sippers.

Unfortunately, this isn’t just a San Diego thing (it’s just that the San Diego paper reported it). The proponents want the ban to be statewide. Guess we’ll have to get a couple thousand straws from Amazon or somewhere and hoard them (hey, it worked with the ban on single-use plastic bags). ;-)

I hate plastic straws, but I won’t vote for government tyranny.I'd like to see them make paper straws of a large enough diameter sufficient to handle the tapioca "bubbles" in a boba drink/smoothie.
