Fight it. Ask the cop to define parking. You were standing. I got out of one like that once. I was parked in a no standing zone.
Next time, find a drive up box if you are physically unable to walk from a parking space to a mailbox.
Otherwise, get your lazy butt in gear and walk from a legal parking space to the mailbox. It will be good for you.

But remember this. Think of all the many many times you did flagrantly break a traffic law. And got away with it.
So think of this unfair little ticket as some sort of divine retribution, payback, karma, or whatever and just Thank God you have been so lucky - so blessed so many other times when you deserved a ticket. And didn’t get one.

You don’t show your state. In some places leaving your car running when you are away from it is worse than improperly parking.
Some states treat parking and standing the same, others define standing differently.
What you really need to do is find a good lawyer and hire him by the hour to fight it. For a couple of thousand in legal fees, he can probably get you out of it.

I don’t think you get points on your license or higher insurance premiums because it was a parking violation. Count your blessings, pay up, and don’t do it again.
All that. And if you have to pay, pay in pennies. Throw in an extra one and tell them to keep the change.

Going to court will waste the Court's time, and the officer's time.
Any good citizen will monkeywrench a grasping, over-reaching government.
I got ticketed for speeding on one occasion. Had planned on paying it but had a question as to the date for court appearance (date didn’t match day of week) on the ticket so I stopped by the assistant DA’s office one day to ask and they tore it up and told me not to worry about it. I was stunned but pleased and felt I had lucked out.
What you did was one of those things you may do 100 times and get caught once or twice. Its a gamble. If its just a parking ticket on your record, I say paying it is the easiest thing in this case.
Doesn’t matter if it’s in neutral. In most jurisdictions a car without a driver is parked, regardless of gears, brakes or anything else.

If you don't fight it, you will forever wonder what the outcome would have been. Rather than second guess yourself forever, just do it.
You'll have a new experience, and at most it'll cost you $92, the time, plus court costs. The alternative is you win and are just out the time.
