What do ya'll think. Never done this b4. If I go to court and the judges laughs at me will I have to pay any more than the 92.00. If the cop doesn't appear I think I am off ?

If ithere was some sign that said no parking (or red curb), you’re in the wrong. Doesn’t that suck? I do stuff like this all the time and hope not to get unlucky. Sorry.

Id guess that the snark on the part of the cop was due to his picking up on your resentment. Dude, you abandoned your car in the street. If you are going to get out of your car for something like mailing a letter, park it.

If your state’s highway department (or whomever publishes the driver’s handbook) has a section for definitions see how “park” is defined. If there is no definition than the common dictionary definition applies.

You were very likely in violation of “parking” regulations no matter which definition is applied. My opinion, Pay the ticket cause it will not be worth your while to waste time in court.

If you can’t pay the time, don’t do the crime! What’s the problem here?

Just so I understand this correctly. You parked you car (only for a few seconds) at a stop sign when a parking space was available?

I believe when you are in a traffic lane “no parking” is implicit.

Throw it in park.....

Wasn’t parked was standing/stopped

Then you should have put your car in "standing or stopped" gear dummy...........

Does your state offer to not put it on your record if you complete a short driving improvement class? That would help for insurance.

A few years back I was getting on my motorbike and dropped a cigarette and crushed it out with my shoe.
Officer in an unmarked car wrote me a ticket for:
1: littering
2: throwing a burning object onto a motorway
Went to court and they told me to pay up.
$567.
Thieves, the whole lot of them.

If this had happend to me and I was certain that I didn’t violate the law, I would fight the ticket.

I was once ticketed for a registration violation, but I believe it was really for having a Bush for President bumper sticker. I went to court and beat the rap.

If you go to court and the patrolman doesn't show, then the ticket is usually dismissed.

If the cop shows, it's you against him and the judge. In court, it's who's believable and has documentation to back it up. If you go in there without anything other than a made-up excuse, you'll probably have to pay the ticket. The judge may very well laugh at you.

But if you can convince the judge there is something about the location, circumstances, time of day, etc. that favors your argument, he might throw the ticket out.

Nothing wrong with trying to get it thrown out. Except you've admitted to doing what the patrolman ticketed you for, so....

But I'll give you some advice my mom used to tell me when I was a kid and I'd go to her complaining about this or whining about that, saying something just wasn't fair. She'd say, "Well, maybe you shouldn't have done that, huh?"

Chances are, you'll have to pay the ticket. :-)
