I have Travelers for my car insurance. The last time somebody hit me (he got a ticket from the police), I called my local agent. She told me I could get my car repaired immediately using my own insurance, and then they would go after the other insurance company for reimbursement. That’s exactly what I did, and Travelers reimbursed me all but $25 of my deductible once they’d gotten the money out of the other insurance company.
Grimmy is correct. Let your insurance agent handle the other insurance company, If Necessary.
Do not contact an attorney.
Everything will be fine. Plus, you are very fortunate that an honest person scraped your vehicle.
LOL, are you SURE you want to do that? I work with a guy who was originally from India...he is pretty old now, but came here as a young man.
There are still some cultural references he doesn't get, even after all these years. We did a farewell party one time at a local restaurant that a bit upscale, but was also a watering hole.
I called the place a "meat market" because that is just what it was, and my Indian co-worker looked puzzled and said in his heavily accented english: "What is 'meat market'?"
So I tried to explain as everyone looked on in amusement what a meat market was. I said it was a place where men and women go to meet and hook up, and that it was somewhat notorious for that.
I could see as I finished my explanation that the light went on in his head, and he said they had the same thing in India when he was a young man. The women would be down at the river doing their wash, and the men would go down there and try to pick them up!
LOL, that was his 'meat market'!
Do you have full coverage or just liabilty?
If you have full coverage, turn it over to your insurer. They should recover your deductible for you as well.
They will prolly tell you to get three repair proposals.
See if you can get original new parts over offshore used body panels.
When this happened to me I called his insurance company. Mine didn’t even get involved.
I had a similar thing happen years ago, but they didn’t leave info for me. I noticed there was white paint smear in the dent. Another person saw it happen and got license plate. it took me months to get resolved because my insurance ( with Flo) did absolutely nothing since they considered my claim a small amount to me it was a lot. I ended up finding out the info on my own and contacting the person’s insurance. they looked into it and found out it was a teenaged son driving when the parents had told him not to so that added to the delay.
Consider yourself fortunate to have been left some info but do investigate ( look for paint colors etc) to be sure it lines up with what info left and not someone just leaving bogus info. that’s my thoughts about it for you.
Wait for the call, if it doesn’t come talk to your insurance company again and hope the damage can be buffed out.
Relax. If they don’t contact you call your insurance company again. By the way file a police report.
It’s just a flesh wound.
First question- what kind of insurance do you have. If it is just liability, you might be out of luck. If it is comprehensive, it should cover the damage to your car if the other guy can’t be found, or if doesn’t have insurance. (labels may vary by state). Get your policy out, and see what is covered.
Your agent should be helping you out a bit more than he or she is.
Don’t lawyer up yet. It isn’t cost effective at this point.
Just chase your insurance company. Make sure the incident is fully reported to them
The fact the hitter left his card means he’s honorable and probably has good insurance. Let your insurance company work it out with his.
Good. The first thing to do is call your own insurance company and then give your limited explanation to the cop when he arrives. Don’t overdo it.
Your insurance company is in the driver’s seat from that moment on. Go home, mix martini, sip slowly, turn on the AC, warm or cold and watch your favorite recorded movie, or jazz band. :D/
“honest person”
Hi. I just hit your car. Sorry. I’m writing a few lines so anyone watching will think I’m leaving contact info.
Again, sorry.
Really???...
.
Ah so is Japanese
Thanks for your reply, I think my insurance is comprehensive, but I have to pay some money if it come to my insurance!
I assume that it runs and that you still need things from CVS.
Police report filed? You say he left a note. That’s nice, but in my experience insurance companies want documentation in the form of an official police report.
Whatever doesn’t kill your car, only makes it stronger.
Thank you! I don’t if know the leave correct info or not, because one lady live nearby sow him hit my car.
Nowadays many police departments will not write reports on automobile accidents where there are no injuries- especially if there is only property damage and no one was in the car during the incident.
