94-Year-Old Woman Has Worked at McDonald’s for 44 Years — and She Eats It Every Shift

94-year-old Loraine Maurer has been working at McDonald’s for 44 years and has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

“If you don’t like your job, it’s a job, but I love it,” she tells PEOPLE. “The people, the clientele, that’s why I stuck with it.”

Since 1973, Maurer has worked at a number of locations in Evansville, Indiana. During the winter months, everyone from her fellow McDonald’s coworkers to loyal customers have offered to pick her up and drop her off at home after her shift.

“I know what goes on with them, I know some of their children. Some ask me to say a prayer and I do,” she says. “I know their lives.”

My thoughts too as I was recalling the same thread.

I suppose its a girl thing...”She is so cute”.
May be they hope folks will reciprocate when they are old and shriveled up.

Reading the article, I could not help but conclude that having this job is actually keeping this woman alive, way past the average life span.

So? People in the U.S. House and Senate stay at their “jobs” that long.

It was 42 years ago that I worked part-time at McDonald’s in Meridian, MS. Trying to imagine a steady diet of it for that span of time.

>>It is simple really. We have little control over our lifespan. It is genetically predetermined.<<

Not quite. Longevity genes are helpful, but you can DRAMATICALLY decrease your life within your allotment.

I am already older than my Dad was when he passed (he smoked and drank beer a good bit). I will soon surpass my Mom (heavy smoker).

I have had a bush with the Big C but early detection get it out of me completely (so far so good).

I do NOT live a super healthy lifestyle but avoid things that could make it worse (quit smoking almost 20 years ago and am only a light to non drinker). A bit of yoga and some treadmill work helps as well. Fast food once a week only.

Chances are good I’ll be OK — as I get older I do more healthy things without being miserable.

You control more than you say, but I agree there is a large genetic component.

There was a lady like that at a walmart. She was in her 80’s and could barely walk or talk.
Another employee told me they kept her on because she said she would die if she couldn’t go to work.

“She’s a cutie pie...”

+

Yes, she is - and she wouldn’t be so well-liked if she weren’t a sweetie-pie, too!

It is simple really. We have little control over our lifespan. It is genetically predetermined.

One side of my genetic code die around 60...three generation back die before 65

The other side die around 100...three generation back almost 100, except for one cancer victim..

I'm hoping to split the difference...LOL

Precisely. Your health issues are, for the most part, genetic. Hereditary. You dance with the parents that born ya'.

I was a marathoner for decades, and watched my diet religiously. I didn't drink alcohol or smoke. I took care of myself. I was a lean, fit, healthy adult.

That is, until I turned 62. Both knees had to be replaced because I had no more cartilage. From the running I asked? No, my orthopedist replied. From my dad, who had both his knees replaced at the same age.

And at 63, I had to have open-heart surgery to repair a leaky valve and replace four coronary arteries. Couldn't the running and clean living prevent this problem? No, replied my cardiologist. I got it from my parents, he said, who both had the same heart disease before open-heart surgery to repair coronary problems became routine. He said I was lucky because the problem could be fixed now. Not so when my parents got older.

The secret is not so much what you do to stay healthy. The secret is to be born to the right parents.

Hope the owners pay her well. She like advertising too. How many customers visit that Mickey D’s to see the 94 year old great granny employee? She keeps the current customers coming back too. Plus she loves her job and does it well. A big win all around.
