Question for Freeper women: Crying men?

Posted on 03/23/2017 11:48:04 AM PDT by MNDude

I was recently listening to radio host, Glenn Beck, and he proudly announced that he cries really often as if it is a badge of honor.

I have noticed there are many men who like being seen crying in public: Bill Clinton, Schumer, Boehner, Anderson Cooper, my former pastor.

I have not known many men to cry in public, well my former roommate in college, but we always made fun of him when he cried.

I was raised that crying for something other than a death in the family for a man is not the thing to do.

Perhaps I am wrong? Maybe wet cheeks is the face of manliness?

Freeper women, what are your thoughts on crying men?

When I was a little boy, anyone who cried even once at school, regardless of the cause, was regarded as a target for mockery and bullying. I didn’t like fighting, but when the class bully came up to me during recess once and punched me in the eye, I punched him back in the belly, and landed him on his back. He left me alone after that.

“When his wife cheats on him with an illegal immigrant and takes his sweet beloved child away and hits him with an alimony bill.”

Might shed a tear or two. Then writes a Country Western song!

I get tearing eyed EVERY time at the end of “It’s a Wonderful Life” - my wife finds it endearing. (The movie hits real close to home.)

Pets and family die, my kids do something sweet for someone. I only recall really breaking down when my old man died many years ago.

Every real soldier I’ve ever known was able to cry. Never did it for impact, but wasn’t ashamed of it either. Even I’ve had overly-active tear ducts a time or two.

"I hate when men cry. But honestly? I hate it more when women cry because it is must more manipulative. That’s my two cents. I cry once in a while, but I cry in private.

Short of a death in the family or the death of a pet, I agree completely with Hildy. Maybe, it's the stoic, stubborn Scots/Irish blood flowing through our veins. In my opinion, men who cry at the drop of a hat (Beck, Boehnor) appear weak and feminine. My mother would whip me until she drew blood (from a switch) if I "stubbed-up" and wouldn't cry when she disciplined me. I still won't show weakness in public.

Remember seeing my dad cry after running over our family dog by accident. He also shed tears at his father in law’s funeral.

S/O cried crocodile tears along w/me when we had to put our beloved dog down. When seeing a man cry in public - it makes me uncomfortable. Don’t relish seeing anyone cry in public (loud boo-hoos and tears) Tears shed and falling silently, however, are acceptable. Seeing men cry in public will always remind me of the TV preacher Jimmy Swaggart attempting to climb back on his highly placed pedestal.

Crying will always cause runny noses and who wants to be around anyone with a constant dripping nose?

I, too knew many soldiers who could and did cry...including myself.

My ex only cried when she could not get her way.
I cried, once, at my father’s casket, privately. \
I choked up once when given a wonderful tribute.
Beyond that I am moved by extraordinary acts of kindness.

I have been known to cry after a major event, when my stepfather died i got on my bike, put about 300 miles on it and a nice secluded spot next to stream in the hill country. Bawled my eyes out, got everything screwed back on tight and went back home

Ron Swanson says it’s acceptable only at funerals and the Grand Canyon. When I was younger, I watched the Nicholas Nickleby miniseries on tv and I cried when Smike died. But I was like, 10, so hopefully that is okay. Oh yeah and my wife makes this really spicy chili sauce that makes me cry a little when I use too much of it. Great for clearing the sinuses though.

Well Bill Clinton was being a hypocrite when he was crying in public; he was chatting and laughing with who he was walking with to that funeral until he spotted a camera then he went all into that weepy mode.

To me crying is an emotional personal thing unless if there’s some major disaster that hits you pretty hard like the Islamic attack on 9/11 - if I was there I’d be crying in public but because I was violently mad.

Housemate’s 90+ yr old dad cried when pet poodle died. Was loathe to cry over much of anything re people. Not seen as manly or tough enough. Me: powerful pain, joy, relationship stuff deserves tears—even with men. Mature vulnerability without sniveling wimpiness is a plus.

Glenn Beck cries in public because he's a charlatan. Ergo:

Sad way to be raised. Hide your feelings - stuff them inside.

What the hell is wrong with crying if your sad as a man? I cry when I think of how beautiful my sons, as created by God, are. Not all the time but sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the magnificence of their being alive. Really? That makes me less of a man?

“1. During war movies.
2. During sports movies.
3. He had to put his favorite dog down.
4. He had to put his favorite horse down.
5. His girlfriend and his wife are pregnant.”

****

I admit I almost choked up in the ending of the Natural and Hoosiers. Hoosiers, especially when Gene hackman was narrating in the end while this small kid was shooting hoops and the scene panned to the big picture of the team with the trophy. My Gf back the asked me ‘are you crying??”

I never saw my father cry until the day my brother died and it devastated me.

I know my husband gets tears in his eye at sentimental moments but except a few times when he was drunk on his arse, I’ve never seen him cry in 48 years.

My granddaughter was so excited to be asked to homecoming by the local football star. It was her first date.
The team lost the homecoming game and he cried, according to her, like a baby. She didn’t want to go to the dance with him because he cried. Her parents made her go, LOL.
