Netflix’s Big Purge: How Much More Can They Cut Without Losing Subscribers?
Fiscal Times ^ | 3/22/17 | Josh Herr

Posted on 03/22/2017 5:51:09 PM PDT by markomalley

As March draws to a close, Netflix has again followed its monthly tradition of announcing what will videos be coming to and leaving its streaming service in the following month. Subscribers typically read these announcements with a mix of trepidation and joy, looking to see which films and shows they should race to watch before they disappear while also looking forward to the new content that will soon be available.

But the reaction to this month’s announcement was a little more rambunctious than usual, driven by dismay that several beloved television shows that have long been a part of Netflix’s library, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files, would be leaving the stable.

Some of this reaction is specific to those shows. Buffy and The X-Files (along with Twin Peaks and the first eight or so seasons of The Simpsons) are in many ways the shows that created modern television. Beyond that, for many people, these are the shows that launched the “binge watching” trend that has almost become the default mode of television watching.

I'm just about ready to dump Netflix and exclusively go with Hulu (and Amazon Prime). There is getting to be entirely too much faggotry...

I love Prime and watched all of High Castle episodes.

As much as I loved Top Gear, the new series hasn’t gripped me enough for some reason. I’ve watched a couple of episodes.

I have never watched a single Netflix original. As they replace the good stuff with that trash, they become less and less worth it.

i won’t read your response, but I know I’m not going to like it.

This is why I will buy physical media as long as it’s available.

Netflix is like digging through a pile of old magazines at the dentist.

Netflix is beting stupid- they don’t have to buy the garbage that advertisers make broadcast, cable show now.
They should pick content their *subscribers* want instead.

There is just too much content out there. I don't know where people find the time to watch it all. They can cut 90% of their content and I'd still only be able to see a fraction of it.

I wish they would bring COPS to Netflix. I liked that show and I think they did a zillion episodes.

There just isn’t much on TV worth watching. Most movies aren’t all that great either. But there are soooooo many good books out there!

I was going to do Amazon Prime about a year ago. I couldn’t bring myself to do business with a Bezos controlled company . I’ve had Netflix forever and some of their original series are pretty good. Even their marvel comic super hero shows are good. The ,Flash , Luke Cage and Daredevil I liked. I was a little sad Netflix stopped streaming Columbo, my favorite show . My dad and I loved that show.

I love Netflix streaming.

I just signed up for their DVD again because I wanted more of the older movies. Just love it when someone is “Singing in the Rain!”

What a nice service! I am blessed to have them.

They just put up the 1080p of “Dr Strange”

There is a 720p of “Passengers” this was way way better than I expected.

It seems only a small part of their library / catalog is available online for streaming. You go to your account and find movies to add to your “List.” Maybe 1 out of 20 is “Available Now” for streaming.

I’ve used their DVD service for probably 15 years, maybe longer. Hard to believe the company is 20 years old!

Yep! I'm getting ready to dump Netflix myself. I watch far more on Kodi these days. I just renewed my Amazon Prime (for the free shipping on stuff...) and cannot wait to see the new episodes of the Man in the High Castle. Loved Season One.
