From my perspective, if this were simply an outrageous lie, Obama couldn’t call a news conference together fast enough to deny it. And it would give him some face time and another chance to mock Trump.

He has already so many times put a truth out there only to be pummeled by media and deems only to have truth revealed and he was shown to be right.

I don’t think President Trump should have gone public with this information just yet. Let Obama and his flunkies believe their little operation is moving along nicely, completely undetected. Then set a trap for them, exposing the operation in a way that even the media can’t ignore.

It is in the news because the Press is hoping to hurt Trump by publicizing the news. The Press has no intention of giving Trump a fair shake.
I think it was done for a good reason. And if Trump has hard evidence regarding this, then he did exactly the right thing at the right time.

The reason Obama will not issue a denial is that he knows the press would never hold him accountable for so many reasons. Why should he take time out of his busy schedule?

This particular episode in the war to drain the swamp has just begun. Obama gains nothing by speaking publicly other than dignify the accusation by Trump. Ignoring Trump, and delegating the initial rounds to subordinates buys time to smoke out where Trump is going with the charge. Will Trump escalate by brining charges or will the media move on to another story next week?
The nation is split 50/50 between lovers of freedom and lovers of the omnipotent state. Obama’s silence will cost him no supporters. This accusation blowing up in Trump’s face could cost Trump some support and will certainly play into the meme Trump is unstable and unpresidential.
The ball is in Trump’s court. He made the accusation and his opponent has elected to sit silently. The press, the Dems, and weak kneed GOP politicians will be demanding Trump release convincing evidence of his charges (i.e. lay out his case in specific detail). There will be more calls for a wide ranging congressional investigation of election hacking, election spying, and Russian involvement which will serve to polarize and freeze Congress, preventing any major legislation from passing or the Supreme Court nominee from being confirmed. Trump has three choices - 1) fold as gracefully as he can, 2) lay the evidence on the table and potentially reveal damaging information about government surveillance, or 3) go nuclear and issue indictments against people close to Obama and possibly Obama.
Obama is daring Trump to create a crisis. Why?
The point bears repeating: Trump did not put out all those tweets just for the attention. This has been discussed and something is in the works.
As said, Trump says something; press laughs at him, corrects him and dismisses him. Events then prove Trump correct.
Lindsay Graham was actually correct: whichever way this breaks, if zer0 tapped Trump or if Trump is making baseless charges, it’s the scandal of the ages for America.

#64 Maybe that is what they just did. Set a trap. If Trump has known about this for a while, got his people to investigate and find the evidence.....Back it up and document where it was and who controls it.
Now he comes out and makes his allegation, putting all the players involved still in government on the hot seat. Now sit back and detail who goes about destroying evidence.
