The very obvious flaw in their reasoning is that petroleum is not an unnatural substance in the ocean.
The beaches of So. Cal used to be black with petroleum before the drilling platforms moved in to relieve the pressure below.

We have an "EGAD!" coal fired power plant here in Panama City, FL. So many fish come in to enjoy the warmer water in its cooling canal in the winter they had to make it strictly "catch and release" ONLY to fish there. Before they did that, you could catch a bushel basket full of speckled trout ("specs" to my fellow Gulf Coastal residents) in about an hour.

Depends on which barrels!
From Wiki; “Although crude oil is sometimes shipped in 55-US-gallon drums, the measurement of oil in barrels is based on the whiskey barrels of the 1870s which measured 42 US gallons (35 imp gal; 159 L). The measure of 42 US or wine gallons, corresponds to a wine tierce”

Oil in it’s ‘natural state’ has been leaking into our oceans since the dawn of time.

Always wondered if the oil company told Obama from the start, “If we can make a clean cut on the old pipe there is a very good chance we can seal the well, even though the rate of oil that escapes will increase for a very short time while we work on it.” But Obama made them use cobbled up repairs that didn’t work and the oil spilled for at least 2 extra months than it would have.

Amazing. The beaches, the fishing...etc all clean after the last hurricane.
The audacity that Americans have mucked up our environment. We’re one of the few who do what we can.
Ten years after humans leave this planet the planet will grow over our buildings and roads.
100 years from now, it will be gone.
We are just passing through.
I don’t one dime of my tax dollars given to these creepy pinkos.

Oil actually boils up out of the Santa Barbara channel.
From the cliff you can often see slicks floating by.
Had black foot plenty of times from walking the beach at low tide.

Natural oil seeps have been occurring for years. The amount of oil is staggering.
Nevertheless, recent and improved data from the northern Gulf of Mexico and from offshore southern California indicate that oil seepage rates were likely underestimated in 1985 (National Research Council, 1985). Based on the above information and using the methods of Kvenvolden and Harbaugh (1983), the annual global oil seepage rate is now estimated to be between 200,000 and 2,000,000 tonnes (60 and 600 million gallons). The best estimate of 600,000 tonnes (180 million gallons), within this range, comes from the acceptance of the original estimates of Wilson et al. (1973, 1974), resulting from a new appreciation for the magnitude of the natural seepage of crude oil, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico.
The estimate was 3.2 million barrels. Natural seeps have that beat by orders of magnitude. The disaster was a media narrative that never existed.

Don’t forget the environmentalists in CA that fought the rigs being built and then turning around and begging the oil companies to leave the legs when the rigs were decommissioned, because they had become important structures for the fish.
