This French bulldog might be the most loved dog in New York — and his owners have $155,000 in vet receipts to prove it.

After Williamsburg couple Kate and Ben Stern adopted the caramel-coated pup named Jones in 2013, he immediately became more progeny than pet.

“We were instantly obsessed. My parents even referred to him as their grandson,” Kate said.

I don’t know why some folks like these homely little dogs so much. They look like happy little trolls with a drool.
I have a sister who thinks “Aw, that pup is so ugly, I feel sorry for him. It’s all been decided. He needs me to take care of him!”
That type of canine smash-face is prone to vision problems and nasal obstructions as they age. Just like with the English Bulldog.
Sorry, Mr. Churchill, nothing personal.

any dog that has been overbreed will have problems. it does not mater whether they are small or large.

Well, it’s their money.

Too bad the dog has so many health issues, but if the owners want to spend their money on the dog, it’s their business.

I have Trupanion.
[the best of them all]

The rate depends on the age of the dog when first insured.

Mine were insured the day they came home from the breeder, at 6 weeks and 8 weeks, respectively.

We pay about $150 a month for the 90% coverage/no deductible.

Your cost will depend on what percentage coverage and deductible level you choose.
There’s a sliding scale you can fiddle with.

If I chose a $250 deductible, the price would drop by about 1/3.

The key is to insure when the dog is very young.

If I had to insure Odin, for example, at his age now, he’d cost me $125, just for him.

Ironically, Obamacare affected their insurance costs, too.

I love all dogs.

However, I have a list of dog I will NEVER own.

*All* Brachycephalic and Achondroplastic breeds are on that list.

Every dog brings the heartache of eventual illness but I’m not going to intentionally go out and pay for it.

You’re kidding? obamacare? Figures.

Not to sound cold, but I have a cat and though he’s my best buddy, cats don’t have the makeup of dogs and wouldn’t survive many of the things dogs would.

And these dogs probably cost a lot and maybe some people breed them.

The cat gets 2k cash and after that, it’s time for cat heaven!

Obamacare hit vets with a ‘medical device tax’, same as people doctors.

That is what jacked up the prices.

My beloved vet was financially slammed by all the new “taxes” Obamacare laid upon him.

There is no end to ruin the usurper has wrought

Yeah it is their money. And fools and money are soon parted. A shame when you think of how many perfectly healthy animals are euthanized for the lack of a home.

Some people are unable to have kids. Ever had a miscarriage..or two or three of them? They suck.

Mrs. Smittie has had five. Knowing they're safe in the Lord's care is comforting and I don't know what we would have done without our fur babies.

It’s their money. They get to decide where to spend it.

Thank you. I was beginning to think I had stumbled onto the wrong forum for a moment.

Sorry, any idiot who refers to their pet as their child needs serious mental help. These morons even more so.

$150K on a dog.

A whole lot of people could offer to solve their dog problem for about a dime. Their deep mental issues will be more costly to fix.
