I've been having problems loading pages on Freerepublic for over a week. I thought it was just my connection (I live in the sticks and use a my-fi ATT hotspot for all my internet.
However, I have the exact same problem at my work computer in downtown Louisville on a high speed corporate network.
The problem manifests itself at least two ways: 1. Pages take so long to load that they timeout and I get a "page reset" message. 2. A partial page loads (often just the first line or two) and then eventually the rest starts showing up in chunks.
Nothing else on the internet in either location hs having any such (or similar) problem.
On a side note. If I log out and just view anonymously, I get to see the first part of the article under the title. But when I log in, I only see titles. This became the default a couple of months ago and when I go to the page to change my settings, no option is given to do so. Just a bunch of darkly colored horizontal bars that look like "partially loaded" buttons with no label.
Anybody else having these problems
This started about 9 to 10 days ago, and what you see is an initial attempt to load the page, and it hesitates....like it’s going through a filter somewhere. You can count maybe three additional seconds, and then the whole page comes up.
I’ve cleared the cache...used different browsers...it all goes to the same issue. I would be curious if point of origin has been rerouted somewhere and this is some intentional delay.
It’s been a little wonky and slow on my Mac but I’ve been blaming procrastination in upgrading the OS, I keep clicking install later.
I remember about 12-12 years ago someone at work found a screensaver program that put a string of Christmas tree lights around the edge of the computer screen and superimposed “snow” drifting down the face. Very festive - and also a virus running in the background. The program was passed around and found its way onto a bunch of machines before it was stopped.
The IT guys weren’t pleased.
It takes 1/4 of a second to load the page here in Az.
You knew it was coming but: are you sure you’re logged in and your sister hasn’t been bitten by a moose, in a hugh and series way? Or maybe you should just hop in the shower and come back later see if it’s cleared up.
“1. Clear your cache 2. restart your modem and computer. see if that helps.”
I have similar problems as stated in the vanity. Your suggestions do nothing to cure the issue.
I just put up with it, just a pain in the neck I can live with.
And there is a host over the sun
Cleaned house, threw out the cookies and logged back on. Malware and Spybot scans are clean.
Its been double clutching since before the electoral college threads. I think it started after the total site failure earlier this week/late last week?
Damn Russians !
Your solutions NEVER work!
:-)
BTW, some of my neighbors call me Mr. Douglas (for the Green Acres character). That’s why I use that name. :)
But I never wear a suit while driving my tractor!
No problems whatsoever. iMac/Safari
I have this problem too. Also, I believe it started right after that serious crash a couple of weekends ago. FR just hasn’t been quite right since that happened. It may be a hardware communications glitch.
It is a bit wonky after the system crashed.
I’ve noticed some modest page loading lag on occasion when loading latest articles for example. Nothing terrible, but it seems to follow peak activity times or when news cycle lends itself toward us all venting on here.
Let’s be honest, Hillary trying to subvert the Constitution for a personal power grab has been good for site activity.
I realize you stated this has happened on two different computers and two different networks, so the computer itself and the ISP are off the table. If it’s happening to you at 5 am on the east coast (when presumably site activity would be low) then I would consider trying a different browser if the browser you use on both machines is the same. I’m not sure what kind of site statistics program FR runs, but many of them allow the admin to see avg time for a page load and some allow for this to be modeled over time of day and day of week. That may be helpful in Jim determining if this site related or not. Best of luck.
Yes, much slower!
Yes, it has been wonky and slow since the crash. It definately started then.
I just assume that one of the power generating hamsters died and that their training another one right now.
their / they’re sheesh..
Are you using a router?
MRT picked it up but said it partially removed it. Microsoft was no help. I hope to delete all my anti virus software offline and see if Windows defender will remove it. If not it is backup time and restore.
There was a problem back in early Dec. 10th or so. Chris had to make a trip to the server
location. Not sure of the problems but it maybe related to something not completely repaired
from that event. Just a guess. But I have problems with loading at times also.
Same problem here too.
It is the Russians. They took down the Clintons and now.... : )
