Got any recommendations on hearing aids. Got a couple VA issued Starkey's that only last three daze on a battery load and had a wiz bang option to adjust by phone and had that feature programmed out. So much texting going on everywhere I kept getting programmed out! I feel my ear canals are blocking the true worth of a aid and most krapp being said out loud is worthless any how. I have a couple Siemens that are dogs at my own expense and have seen some new "light" transmitted ears that look interesting but I think a home mortgage is required. Any thoughts. I could really live without them since closed captioning is close enough to understand and my wife has a low range voice that I seldom miss!

The problem with hearing aids is that they cannot replicate your brain and ears. Your brain can adjust what you are listening to. You can shift from watching TV, having a conversation, to listening to a noise in the house.

Hearing aids tend to magnify all sounds, equally. That takes some time to get used to. If you talk to audiologists they will tell you that most people who give them up haven’t had them long enough to get used to.

I went through this with my Mom and MIL. Now, I have to wear ear muffs when I spend time with them because the TVs are so loud. (I don’t really.). But I spend an inordinate amount of time repeating myself, retransmitting conversations, and shouting o get their attention.

Good point.....Plus if you put them in a small case or not it feeds back on itself draining the power quicker

Bump again. Hey folks. Let’s hear the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Can the hearing aids be programmed to amply selected frequencies and not amplifying ones that don’t need amplified?

Thanks much!

Two years ago I went to HearUSA here in SoCal and bought a pair of last year’s Siemans for $1,700. Saved $1,000 by getting the previous model. HearUSA never charges for office visits or semiannual checkups, gives me free batteries, and I have a three-year warranty on the aids—both have been replaced for no cost. Don’t know if HearUSA is in your area but they’ve been great for me.
