Got any recommendations on hearing aids. Got a couple VA issued Starkey's that only last three daze on a battery load and had a wiz bang option to adjust by phone and had that feature programmed out. So much texting going on everywhere I kept getting programmed out! I feel my ear canals are blocking the true worth of a aid and most krapp being said out loud is worthless any how. I have a couple Siemens that are dogs at my own expense and have seen some new "light" transmitted ears that look interesting but I think a home mortgage is required. Any thoughts. I could really live without them since closed captioning is close enough to understand and my wife has a low range voice that I seldom miss!

My Dad just got ripped off at Miracle Ear.

When you go in they will tell you if you don’t like it, you can juar return it.

What they don’t tell you about is the 20% restocking fee.

Be aware.

This is a great complaint site.

Health innovations through United Healthcare Choice Plus has them for under $800 each; ear molds & shipping is out-of-pocket.

Better than the $1000 a pop ones.

Why do hearing aids cost so much, don’t really work according to a lot of users, get obsolete quickly, fail often, require constant battery replacement and are sold by so many manufacturers? How is we have incredible smart phone technology and no one has figured out to make a quality, low cost hearing aid?

I don’t know what your hearing problem entails, but I am entering that age where these problems may occur (I just turned 60). If it were me, I’’d wait and see what the Trump administration changes, whether that’s price or availability or outlook and go from there.

Having said that, as I enter the age of health problems, I have started wondering how I should handle it all. I love my hearing ability, but I also love closeed captioned foreign movies and think I could adapt well to regular movies and shows with the same captioning.

My husband talks, talks, talks, all of the time, it drives me crazy, but I’d miss that if I truly could not hear. I guess I’m saying I would have to be honest about a hearing loss.

The bottom line is, I will pay out of my own pocket for what is important....if I can’t, I will learn and adjust.

I’m not trying to sound trite, but that is a fact. If I can only put back a dollar a week for a 10k fix, I will do it, I may not live to see it through, but I will still be alive to try, and somehow, I think that would work out just fine. :)

I have the same hearing aids from the VA. Do you disconnect the batteries when you aren’t wearing them, the power never shuts off unless you do? I started doing this and doubled the battery life.

If you aren’t sure you need them and can get free ones from the VA, not sure I would spend money on anything else.

You can cut down on ‘squealing’ by keeping your ear canals clean.
I use these little flexible plastic things from Walgreens: ‘Klenere’? A tiny scoop on one end, a reamer-type cleaner on the other end. Almost impossible to hurt your eardrum unless you are just careless.

“My husband talks, talks, talks, all of the time, it drives me crazy...”

My old boss, when he would get tired of hearing someone yap would figit with his hearing aid and it would squeal and he would say “damn batteries” and then start saying “what?” a lot and the talker would leave. Then he would do something with his hearing aid and say “Huh - I guess the batteries are okay after all” with a wink.

LOL!

My husband, poor thing, needs the outlet. Too many women today don’t understand it is not always comfortable to give support to those you love.

Still, when I’ve had enough, I start running my hands through my hair even while trying not to roll my eyes.....he gets it and stops, for about, oh, 30 seconds....:)

I’m 75 years old and have significant hearing loss. BUT, I am able to hear some people without much of a problem, while others, including my wife, have voice tone and/or volume levels such that I simply cannot hear then. Whenever I am hassled by those I cannot hear, I always say to them: Look, hearing aids can cost several thousand dollars. How much does it cost you to speak up? They usually just laugh at that and raise their voices so I can hear them. Problem solved.

I have VA hearing aids. They were ok, but were programmed to each other. Increase the volume on 1 increases the volume on the other. They eventually died on me.

I ended up buying from this place about 6 years ago (now a little pricey )
I bought the extended warranty and 1 went out. Sent it back and was replaced - no questions asked.
(this web site has a lot of general info about hearing aids.)
https://www.mdhearingaid.com

There are better hearing aids and cheaper for that kind of money.

I did a lot of research on hearing aids offered via amazon (they have a bazillion)

then I picked these up this october from amazon for 136 bucks for both.
Britzgo Digital Hearing Amplifier BHA-702D Pack of 2

where Britzgo is selling them for 1799 a piece.

The BRITZGOs do not have all the bells and whistles as the MDHearing, but the price is right and I can live with it.

good luck

Costco - save a bundle, top technology. I got Rexton and they are fantastic.

I inherited my dad’s 4 year old 8 channel Oticons and no matter what reprogramming they tried, and what receivers, they just didn’t work.

A top hearing clinic wanted $5,500 for their top of the line units.

I got the equivalent at Costco for $2,600. Bluetooth, smartphone controls, receive telephone calls in ears, music in ears, almost infinite settings.

Don’t believe the lies that the Costco staff are untrained and don’t know what they are doing. Costco ran more tests by far than my top-notch hearing clinic ever did - and the new hearing aids work fantastic. All kinds of settings, but “Automatic” works best - senses background noise & adjusts - has settings for multiple environments on your smartphone.

Great support, great staff. Like them much better (no pressure) than the staff at hearing clinic.
