Could any of the other 16 Republican's have defeated Hillary?

Posted on 11/28/2016 3:21:02 PM PST by MNDude

Now that the election is in the past, and we now have the insight of looking back, do you think any of the other Republican candidates running for congress could have won the general election against Hillary?

If so, which other candidate(s) do you think also would have defeated Hillary, and which important swing states that Trump won or lost do you think they would pick up?

Obviously other candidates could’ve flipped Iowa and Ohio too. For how far they went GOP this time, analysts are saying those may no longer be swing states for the Dems.

Rubio, Kasich or Cruz all could’ve beaten Hillary. None of them would’ve had the albatross of “the tape” hanging around their neck. Rubio and Cruz would’ve had extra appeal with latinos and the Christian/Mormon base. Kasich would’ve had the rust belt appeal. Kasich might have undone himself with a weak campaign like Romney though, and by driving away too much of the conservative base.

This was not a hard election to win. Hillary was a terrible candidate.

Hillary Clinton is too evil for the others. Only Trump had the courage to bring it.

It doesn’t matter. The chances keeping a majority in the Senate would’ve dramatically decreased otherwise.

NO. Can you imagine any of them having the courage to say to Hillary “No, because you would be in jail”. Trump was the perfect candidate to defeat all that she represented. MAGA!

“Rubio could have beaten her . . . to the nearest foam party!”

Or to the nearest boot sale.

No. Experience has shown that establishment Republican politicians had no chance against the crooked media.

I’m not sure that there is. Trump is the best candidate at this point of history

My original stand, back when I was backing Cruz, was that pretty much anyone not named Bush in the field COULD beat her (depends on what kind of campaign was run). I also stated that Trump was unique in that he could beat her, it wouldn't be particularly close, and the northeast would be in play, at least pulling resources away, and more likely winning some unusual prizes.

Mrs. Bill Clinton was an unusually weak candidate. So far Trump is doing a very good job to lessen my initial distrust of him, and I do not regret jumping on the bandwagon once Cruz dropped out.

Yes, winning requires that one wins. Even Reagan lost. Many great people though out time have lost.

I don’t think he would win because of the rust belt. I don’t think he would have campaigned as hard there or would have been as popular.

I think Cruz would do better than Trump in Texas, and that’s about it.

Jeb would have brought all of his money and energy to the campaign, motivating his base as well against Hillary as he did in the primaries . . . in other words, no. Jeb would have been crushed like a bug.

I said from the beginning that as long as the GOP nominee did not blow bubbles with his drool, he would win.

Hillary was an incredibly weak candidate, and just about anyone on the GOP ticket could have beaten her. Now, they may have done it differently than Trump (e.g. the hat trick of Wisconsin, PA, MI is a uniquely Trump phenomenon). I have a good number of left-leaning friends that said they would have voted for any Republican except for Trump (a few said Cruz or Trump).

I will say that I do not believe Jeb Bush could have beaten her. I don’t think he could have gotten the strong border crowd to vote for him and so he probably would have lost because he was too much like Hillary.

They’d put up even money now, with Casey at the bat.

None but Trump were tough enough... She would have drug all of them thru her filthy attacks for real or fake issues. All others would have cracked.
