A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.
The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:
A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”
Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Let them go as long as they take their fair share of Obama’s twenty trillion dollar debt. I would divide it up as a percentage of the number of electoral votes cast for him.
And shortly thereafter, without access to a LOT of Federal tax dollars, they would jump the border into the USofA because there would be no source of all the “free” crap they crave.....Kalifornia would become a wilderness no-man’s land....
I am in California. I would vote in favor of this and if successful move out of California.
Of course it will never happen, but we can dream.
FreeRepublic is located in Fresno, which last time I looked was in California.

On a related topic, California should be divided (not north south but east west.
Separate the coastal cities with the eastern side. Sacramento reflects the population in the big cities and all but ignores the wishes of those on the interior.
