Trump’s Space Policy Boils Down To Going To Mars
Daily Caller ^ | 10 Nov, 2016 | ANDREW FOLLETT

Experts suspect that President-elect Donald Trump’s space program will likely be focused on exploration with robotic probes and sending humans to Mars, using money diverted from global warming science programs.

“NASA should be focused primarily on deep-space activities rather than Earth-centric work that is better handled by other agencies,” Robert S. Walker and Peter Navarro, both senior advisers to the Trump campaign, wrote in an opinion piece published in SpaceNews. “Human exploration of our entire solar system by the end of this century should be NASA’s focus and goal.”

Industry analysts suspect that Trump will likely modestly increase NASA’s overall budget while slashing many programs supported by President Barack Obama.

“Experts suspect...”

“...program will likely...”

“Industry analysts suspect...”

This article is a big nothing burger.

So?

Kennedy’s space mission boiled down to going to the Moon, and that worked out pretty well.

It inspired everyone in America, and many around the world. It gave young Americans a vision of a future of exploration and discovery, which then vanished as decades of navel-gazing and self doubt set in.

America needs to lead the way into the solar system. Earth’s growing population demands a safety valve. The concept of Manifest Destiny is still valid, although “west” is now “up.”

“Trump will likely modestly increase NASA’s overall budget...”

Please start the Shuttle missions and return jobs to 200K people. Best machine ever built. Going to Mars is bad engineering, like solar power, global warming and limited oil.

I’d nominate the intrepid explorer Leonardo Di Crapio as the Mars expedition leader. Al Gore can be the experimental robot.

‘Suspect’ , ‘likely’,’should be’ , ‘likely’, ‘suspect’.... The words in the article used on that order. So they really know nothing about what his policy will be and are just filling a page.

I don’t think it’s worth it to send humans to Mars. Maybe someday with everything is great back home.

I’ll never forget that bastard retiring our beloved shuttle and seeing it wheeling along the highway to the grave!! It was like watching the beginning of the death of America. Can we get ourselves into space still or do we still have to bum rides from Russia?

Good move.

Stupid to stick to one planet.

I’d rather have my tax dollars going to that than to regime change or foreign aid.

I don’t think it’s worth it to send humans to Mars.

The limitation on our technology is such that we cannot provide the necessary shielding to protect from the radiation of the Sun when they are outside the Earth's shield. That and the gravity difference take their toll on a human body. Sometimes quickly. Sometimes deadly.

It’s good to have long term goals, but he also needs to high profile tasks that can be accomplished while he’s in office.

I do not think Mars is habitable. And there is no way to get back. It is a suicide mission.
