The Philadelphia home where Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly grew up and accepted a marriage proposal from Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1955 is now in the hands of the royal family.

Her son, Prince Albert of Monaco, has confirmed to People Magazine that he was the recent purchaser of the six-bedroom, 2.5-story Colonial home in the city’s East Falls section.

He said in an interview on the magazine’s website posted Friday that the house is “very special to our family.” He said he was happy to have saved it “from a near certain death or development.” […]

The home was built in 1935 by Kelly’s father, John B. Kelly. He was a three-time Olympic gold medal-winning rower in the 1920s and later a prominent businessman active in Philadelphia politics. A sign posted outside designates the structure as a Pennsylvania historical landmark. …

Sentimental value.
$754000 is actually a reasonable price for its historical $ value.

It is too small for him though. He would feel like prince Edward in a can.

Sounds like Prince Albert has the deal in the can. Wonder if his refrigerator is running?

I miss Old Hollywood. Compare Grace Kelly to Miley or Madonna.

I don’t think he’ll live there.
Maybe turn it into a museum or something, and if he charges a small visitors fee, then he may break even in not too long.

Grace Kelly's home on Henry Avenue in the East Falls section of Philadelphia was just a very short walking distance to two different federal housing projects, known a while back as "East Falls Housing Project" and "Abbottsford Homes Housing Project" (both in East Falls also, like Kelly's home, one on Henry Avenue, and the other on Ridge Avenue I believe, not far away from Henry Avenue).   It was an interesting and stark contrast for that East Falls neighborhood.

I see your point, Grace had class, plain pure and simple.

The other two skanks you mentioned are classless and clueless.

BTW, regarding old Hollywood, our primary TV watching is classic movies from the 30’s to the 70’s.

I lived a few blocks away in East Falls till HS graduation in 55, the year she married and was already famous. Clueless teen, I had no idea her home was nearby. Went to my 60th last year and there was a history marker there.

She was my mom’s favorite actress. Both women were beautiful, elegant, and classy. RIP to you both and poster, thanks for a happy memory for me!

If the home isn’t on the National Register, the property still isn’t safe. The Raniers could sell it later to some developer. I’ll believe AII is serious when he gets it listed.

Compare Grace Kelly to Miley or Madonna.

My step-father was a bartender at the Logan Inn in New Hope when she did a play at the Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania in the very early 50s. Said she was a nice person who took all the attention she got for her looks with charm. He flat out loved her.
