Nice shot. What you have there is a tricolored heron. You're right! All these years I gave the wrong name to my bird. Thanks!

I know that feeling. Where do they go? Are they safe? Do they have enough to eat and drink?
I saw one (and maybe a second) robin yesterday. !!! Oh my. Stragglers from the far north? I thought oh that’s not good, they need to get moving along.
I know they are watched over, but still...

What a great idea to keep swampsniper’s threads going.
If there is a ping list, do you have room for one more?

Hey, Jaz! Yeah, home mainly but I got called in for a week of bird surveys here in the Great Basin
Just finished another one this morning. More horned larks!
Then I've got two weeks of botany surveys down south coming up real soon. I was thinking that this would be my down time, but no such luck!
Shouldn't gripe, I suppose. I should be happy to be kept busy in the Obama Depression!
Take care! I'll FReepmail down the road when I have some true time off!

Hello, I was just perusing one of the old birdy threads and noticed some of your photos. They’re beautiful! I’m wondering what kind of camera and lens you use, especially for the smaller birds. I’m hoping to find a camera that might help me improve my photos over my old point and shoot. Any help is greatly appreciated.
To: FamiliarFace
Thank you. My pics are with either a Canon 7D or, now, a 7D MK II and a Canon 400mm f5.6 lens.

Thanks for the info. It looks like that may be well over my price range. I’m looking for something for less than $1000.

Canon Powershot SX50, Nikon Coolpix P600 or P900, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ150, or Leica V-Lux have come up in latest issue of ABA Guide to Equipment as bridge cameras.
