Under escort from the U.S. Armys 101st Airborne Division, nine black students enter all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Three weeks earlier, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus had surrounded the school with National Guard troops to prevent its federal court-ordered racial integration. After a tense standoff, President Dwight D. Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent 1,000 army paratroopers to Little Rock to enforce the court order.
10 yrs from now, they will need the same amount of soldiers for white kids entering public school.
Eisenhower was violating the law and it was really clear.
However no one was going to make him obey it as all the power was behind him.
The way the trash in that town behaved towards those kids made the case for Ike.
Go figure.
Should have picked our own cotton.
And using Common Core math.
I highly recommend reading the chapters on the integration of Central High School at Little Rock, Arkansas, in the US Army Center of Military History’s volume: The Role of Federal Military Forces in Domestic Disorders, 1945-1992 by Dr. Paul Schieps

That picture says it all.
And now, Negro college students are demanding their own segregated dormitories and meeting places.
It simply AMAZES me that all of the gut-twisting this nation underwent to give people of color the SAME opportunities that everyone else had...is now not taught in school and all but forgotten.
Democrats are evil, self-serving people! More concerned with keeping their POWER, keeping people DOWN and on their ‘plantations’ than giving up ONE effing VOTE!
HOW do you explain this to people when so much of our history has been watered down and/or ERASED? And now we have the civil unrest every d@mn DAY and murder rates among blacks is the WORST it’s ever been!
Frustrating!
And don’t even get me started on the Civil War and the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of lives LOST to free the slaves!
OMG! It’s like it never. even. happened. *SOB*
to prevent its federal [emphasis added] court-ordered racial integration."
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
With all due respect to the family and supporters of the late President Eisenhower, the cost of low-information federal leaders doing the right thing to protect black students outside the framework of the Constitution is this. The misguided federal government was able to get away with unconstitutionally expanding its powers.
More specifically, the only race-based right that the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect is voting rights as evidenced by the 15th Amendment. And since INTRAstate schooling issues are clearly outside the scope of voting rights, the feds had no constitutional basis to interfere with segregated schools imo.
Consider that James Madison and Thomas Jefferson had warned patriots to be on their guard against the corrupt feds taking advantage of questionable situations to unconstitutionally expand its powers.
I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. James Madison, Speech at the Virginia Convention to ratify the Federal Constitution (1788-06-06)
To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition. Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson's Opinion on the Constitutionality of a National Bank : 1791
The system of the General Government is to seize all doubtful ground. We must join in the scramble, or get nothing. Where first occupancy is to give right, he who lies still loses all. Thomas Jefferson to James Monroe, 1797.
In fact, regarding school segregation, Jefferson had also indicated that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to dictate INTRAstate school policy.
The great mass of the articles on which impost is paid is foreign luxuries, purchased by those only who are rich enough to afford themselves the use of them. Their patriotism would certainly prefer its continuance and application to the great purposes of the public education, roads, rivers, canals, and such other objects of public improvement as it may be thought proper to add to the constitutional enumeration of federal powers [emphases added]. Thomas Jefferson: 6th Annual Message, 1806.
Also consider that although the 14th Amendment arguably should have included anti-segregation provisions, it remains that there was nothing stopping the post-17th Amendment ratification Congress from proposing an anti-school segregation amendment to the Constitution that would have given the feds the specific power to intervene in such situations.
Finally, with all due respect to the Freedmen and their descendants, the 14th Amendment and citizenship laws should require that all candidates for citizenship be able to prove basic knowledge of the federal governments constitutionally limited powers, particularly Section 8 of Article I, in order to become a citizen. This is because corrupt lawmakers have exploited low-information voters by promising things to new citizens and their descendants to get elected, promises that the feds actually have no constitutional authority to make to anybody.
We moved from the Intermountain Rockies to the Ozarks back in 1956. Got our first TV a few months later and guess what is on the news? What had we gotten into!
I, and an Intermountain kid of 10 asked dad “What is segregation?”
He told me and I could Not believe it! I had gone to school with Indians, Hispanics, Blacks, Italians and others! This was something new and strange! I now realize I was suffering from CULTURE SHOCK at 10 years old!
And public education is far better now, right?
Let’s compare the quality of paragraphs written in 1956 vs. now. Of course even the all-Black schools were producing better scholarship back then than our integrated schools produce today.
My grandmother in Humphrey, Arkansas had always voted Democrat but was finally convinced to vote for Eisenhower when he ran. After he sent troops into Little Rock my Mamaw vowed to NEVER vote for a Republican again.
I respectfully disagree. That image tells us nothing at all of value.
That image was part and parcel of a giant propaganda effort.
A propaganda that was successful and whose negative consequences harm us to this day.
