Rock n'f'n ROOL !!! [a satirical view of musicianship from an aging Boomer]

Rock n'f'n ROOL !!!

I always said that the Bassist is the most normal person in the room .... the Lead Singer is always an exhibitionist jumping about like a spastic idot [sic] screaming some incoherent gibberish into some cheap $23 dollar microphone bought from some cheezy pawnshop located in the seediest part of town, while the posing Lead Guitarist flails about in spandex with legs spread wide, a raised fist in mock triumph to his lame power chord, stomping on a battalion of s***ty sounding effects pedals, each one sounding noisier and more obnoxious than the other ...

Sometimes the Lead Singer and Lead Guitarist are one and the same, and then it gets really scary !!

The Drummer is just simply 'The Drummer' ... the drummer is not really considered as a 'human being' at all in the classic sense ... similar to the Pitcher in baseball and the Goalie in ice-hockey, they do what they do and they do it well, but don't ever get too close to any of 'em because they're usually psychopathic otherwise.

And don't get me started on smugly 'superior' Keyboardists either!!! ... "Classically Trained", yeah right, studied Piano at the feet of some maniacal Nun since they were four years old, who sadistically smacked their hand with a yardstick if they played the wrong note, and who now smack their fellow bandmates with lightning bolt dirty looks if any one of 'em dare to deviate from the prescribed sheet music chart.

Yes indeedy, the Bassist is the most normal person in the band ... which is why I gave up guitar and now play bass in a band ... I am now the anchor link between rational and the insane asylum ....... but I ain't sayin' which is which.

Pathetic self-aggrandizement post on my part ... but I ain't celebrating it nor am I ashamed of it ... I'm just yer usual normal citizen who loves America and am so happy that I was born here and am able to rant and rave, in a silly way, about the follies of my fellow Americans ... pay no attention to that Big Brother behind the Curtain .......

You’ve described my son’s band fairly well. There are 3 of them. The lead singer and the lead guitarist are the same guy. My son is the bassist. He is the glue that holds the band together.

LOL ... yep, that's the gist of it ... if not for the rhythmic connection between the drummer and the bassist then the entire band would fall apart.

An overpaid drummer?

Keith Moon and John Bonham were the ultimate drummers.

So why is Rock “in decline”?

It’s NOT because of downloading, like Gene Simmons says.

EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is better now and more popular?

As a 47-year old who occasionally plugs a Les Paul into a Marshall (when I'm not taking the kids to Cub Scouts and karate lessons) I found this Instagram page endlessly entertaining. You might as well.

Gotta read the captions.

Ping for later. It’s my rock n roll birthday night in Tokyo now. We just returned to downtown from the awesome Yokota Friendship Day at Fussa.
So many beautiful birds and...”beautiful birds”.

Ronin was wearing his rock n roll adorned vest along with all his Connie gear too.

I think this was a well reasoned, perfectly rational description.

Oh, and I’ve got a Carl Thompson bass. :-)

Beyond the musical glue, he is the level head that holds them together too. The front man is a creative talent, but his creativity leads him toward drama from time to time. My son is the steady person in the band that brings a calming influence to when things get rocky.

Flea is the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Keith Moon and John Bonham were the ultimate drummers.

I gotta disagree with Keith Moon. Had he lived longer, he would have eventually checked into the Betty Ford "Overplayers anonymous" clinic.

John Bonham, though.... Musical thunder.

Oooooh, there went your street cred.

LOL ... and my so-called 'street-cred' dissipated exactly when ??

The funny part of this OP, and meme, is that even in this millennial era, that the 'boomer' generation set the standard for excellence in music that has gone unmatched nowadays. Sure, there a few really good musical artists today, but very few of 'em can match the magic of any of the classic rockers of yesterday.

My brother is all of those guys by turns. He also plays weddings and runs the AV department at Stetson U.

EDM may be more popular, but it's not "better"...hell, it's not even music. It's a computer program.

Rock is in decline because, thanks in large part to Pro Tools, every friggin' band out there sounds just like the one before it...my hatred for Pro Tools is another conversation altogether.
