The new ads by Donald Trump hammer undocumented immigrants and terrorism and pledge to make America safe again.
Making undocumented the equivalent of ISIS terrorists is yet another example of the focus of the Trump campaign aimed at hammering and demonizing those least able to defend themselves.
If you spend any time studying England and the worlds response to the Great Hunger in Ireland in the 19th century, youll be struck by the moralizing, the finger pointing and at worst the cold indifference not unlike the Trump dark vision today.
There is no doubt that Trump would have demonized the Irish fleeing the famine and turned back the antecedents of men like John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, the father of Henry Ford and the father of Eugene ONeill among millions of others.

It must suck to not have a brain. I feel sorry for this idiot.
I’m posting this in case you need to debate with your liberal friends. I am quite sure that Trump would have been one of many American leaders turning Irish boats back. Why? To protect our population, and isolate the diseases coming.
I think had the deaths from great famine of 1845 and 1849, been due to only general starvation the world may have helped, but such was not the case. More than a million people died from fever, dysentery and smallpox. These three highly contagious diseases, which had long been endemic in Ireland, swept the country epidemically and with great malignity during these years.
Their destructiveness was intensified by the presence of other epidemic infections, especially tuberculosis, bronchitis, influenza, pneumonia, diarrhoea and measles.
The arrival of Asiatic cholera as a pandemic in 1848-49 exacerbated the situation. This fearsome disease added to the physical and mental suffering of the beleaguered population and increased the overall mortality.
Who hired this leprechaun?
I’ve got a great idea - - let’s have someone go over to DU and post a bunch of conservative pieces - you know to educate the thugs, goons and liars... then put ‘barf’ in the title.
It might demoralize them... or help them grow up. Since I don’t go there it might already be happening, but if not... maybe we should consider it.
My ancestors on both sides were starved out. They came here to find work and feed their families, and to make this country their own. They would never have taken “charity” - that would be shameful.
There’s a big difference here.
Malarkey
FDR refused the ship of Jews escaping the Holocaust.
And Lincoln accepted them for cannon fodder into the meat grinder called the “civil” war.
It’s not the number of people, it’s abidance of the law. The Irish had to obey the laws of the day to be able to come into the country.
Americans can never win in the eyes of modern Ireland - sort of the way they treat Israel.
No good deed goes unpunished, folks!
The Irish who arrived on our shores were a degraded people. There’s a dark side to this immigrant story that is generally suppressed. The crimes committed by the Irish in NYC alone were horrific. Perhaps one of the reasons “Irish Need Not Apply” signs started appearing. And remember the draft riots in which the Irish lynched innocent blacks for no good reason.
That’s not the entire story, of course. And many hard-working Irish achieved good things in this country. And they have assimilated completely in the 20th & 21st century.
“We’ll take the n****rs and the c***ks, but we DON’T WANT THE IRISH!”
Trump would have also declared Great Briton a terrorist nation for committing genocide by starvation of the Irish people.
As a member of the same family as Michael O’Coilean I say he is wrong. The Irish Famine victims would NEVER have been deemed as the same kind of ideological threat the wild animals of Islam are. Extreme vetting would have elicited that they were legitimate victims not anything like the people described in the McCarren Walter Act. This writer is a jackass.
Quite True !
It seems that O'Doherty is confused between lawful immigration during " An Gorta Mor" ,
and the purposely political invasion of conquest.
The Irish wanted to assimilate, and wanted to survive
while the current wave of Middle East immigrants wants to convert,
and has no intention of assimilation, rather ,
many, if not most, want conquest of the Western Civilization.
He purposely confuses "Bangers and Mash"
with the "Hopey-Changey" of "Beans and Franks".
Ireland denied entry to Jews fleeing Germany in WWII. We don’t need a lecture by this overseas asshat.
Not sure they’re halal.
Let’s see how many of today’s ‘poor refugees who aren’t able to defend themselves’ does Cahir ODoherty ready to accept into his/her own backyard?
And so?
People do not have an automatic right to live where ever they want.
Nations decide who can and can’t come in.
