Analysis New poll analysis finds a wasted summer for Donald Trump and a boost for Hillary Clinton
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 20th 2016 | Cathleen Decker

The last six weeks have been a time of tumult in the presidential campaign — two conventions and a fistful of controversies, many of them created by Republican nominee Donald Trump himself.

With the campaign moving toward a final general election sprint, Trump finds himself in a dangerous place. He has narrowed his support to a segment of the electorate, and curbed his own momentum, according to an analysis of six weeks of findings in the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Daybreak presidential tracking poll.

Over the same period, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has built support — even among groups previously arrayed against her — into demonstrable advantages.

The poll was first published July 10 and is in its seventh week. The analysis covered the six full weeks, and thus did not chart any impact from Trump’s high-profile speeches this week, or his midweek decision to shake up his campaign’s leadership.

Over six weeks’ time, Trump’s 22-point lead among whites narrowed to 18 points. Among nonwhites, Clinton’s advantage rose from 38 points to 46 points.

Trump’s lead among voters without a college degree shrank from 12 points to five points. Among those with college degrees, Clinton’s edge increased from 13 points to 15 points.

Among men, Trump’s advantage dropped from 12 points to eight points. Among women, Clinton’s edge grew from five points to 12 points.

And as always, they poll registered voters, not likely voters with a skew towards democrats by up to 10 points.

Their desperation is now becoming hilarious.

Please remember, however, election season is a money bonanza for media outlets. They want to keep all the races close, even if they aren’t, to keep the advertising dollars flowing in from both sides.

That’s why it’s completely ridiculous for the media to run their own polls and sponsor debates. OF COURSE they’re going to “report” the “news” that makes them the most money.

Please see my #26. It’s ALL about the money.

The media, which reaps a jackpot every political year (most political advertising has to be paid up front) has a vested interest in keeping the race “close.”

Having the media run polls and host debates is the ULTIMATE conflict of interest, but nobody calls them on it.

Among those with college degrees, Clinton’s edge increased from 13 points to 15 points.

I hear she's also doing very well with high-schoolers who are threatened with detention if they don't show up for her rally in the auditorium.

Hillary’s refusal to do anything other than highly scripted events makes her look like the lying loser that she is. The next two months are absolutely critical and she looks like she is running out of gas before the finish line. Trump has reacted to the criticism by pivoting to more thoughtful, reassuring and caring mannerisms. It is not really natural for him, but he should keep up the prompter speeches. People have been conditioned to respond well to them by the media.

blah! blah! Blah! Hillary is going to win in a landslide! she leads 99% to 1%. American’s love her for her moral integrity. Trump is such a loser. Who would ever vote for him? It goes on and on like a bad dream. Hillary is in Martha’s Vineyard, Obama is golfing while Trump has to go to lowly flooded Louisiana. I was going to vote for Trump, but now I am so discourage. George “step in awful sh_t” has pronounced hillary (the fit one) as our next POTUS.

Hillary has BUILT support? How? She has gone into hiding because she is tired and/or sickly and essentially stopped campaigning! So are people going to rallies and hearing her speeches and getting energized to now vote for her? Oh wait, she doest even have rallies. Yet she is magically BUILDING support, huh? WE have literally gone through the looking glass.

"AND why are we to believe this poll??"

Don't believe ANY poll.

Throughout the summer and fall of 1980, even the day before election day, EVERY nationwide poll showed Carter leading by 2-4 points.

Reagan won by 10 points nationwide, 45 states and 10-1 in the Electoral College.

Don't be discouraged or encouraged by polls.

Be a tireless advocate without shame.

It's contagious.
