Health care will be on Rebecca Esparza’s mind in the voting booth this fall.

The two-time cancer survivor from Corpus Christi, Texas, says repealing the Affordable Care Act could make her uninsurable. The health law protects people with pre-existing medical conditions from being denied coverage. …

Part of the problem is that the left so easily goads the right into publicly acting callous. It happens like clockwork. There is not a day I log into FR that I see it happen, and groan.

There always WAS a godly solution here, it was called churches and charity. However by monopolizing the whole field of medicine (and of social support nets, to generalize the picture), our secular Caesars have worked an etiolation of that godly solution.

Affordable out of pocket cancer care is available offshore in the Caribbean or in Thailand or India. The British and Canadian skilled doctors who stayed in the field went to Asia. Americans are setting up shop in the Caribbean. For major medical it will eventually be the only practical path , especially for those over 60 or so.

Very sad story. Wanna hear mine? I have VA care, and just two weeks ago drove 3 hours to the VA Hospital, sat in the waiting room for another 3 hours, just to be finally told that the doctor I needed wasn’t there that day -— so I had to be rescheduled, and drove 3 hours back home. They rescheduled me for January 2017. Thankfully, I actually can wait.

Unless you want VA care in your future, feel sorry for our fellow citizens but understand the motive these stories -— to drive everyone to socialized health care. Run, folks, run!!!

From what I understand about "pre-existing conditions", you're not forever excluded from obtaining coverage. There is a maximum 1 year waiting period with the new coverage before they start covering the existing condition but only if you were without coverage for a year.

Another example: You lose your coverage today because of loss of job and get hired next week and are offered new coverage with new carrier. They can't deny you the coverage because you were previously insured.

The bottom line is, your new insurance carrier can only deny you the treatments for the existing condition for a period of time contingent on how long you were without insurance prior to signing up with them. And that maximum period is one year............

If you lose your job, continue your coverage thru COBRA and get a new job with coverage 8 months down the road, the new carrier can't deny you because you were covered all those eight months.

If you lose your job and were without insurance for 6 months and got a new job with new insurance, the carrier can only withhold treatment for the condition for 6 months.....something like that.

330 million people are getting screwed, but AP can find 5 really sad stories that totally shift the argument in favor of Obamacare. C’mon! It’s for the children!

She doesn’t have to worry about cancelling Obamacare.

Surety profits end Jan 1, 2017 and insurance companies will exit the market completely, leaving you no choices and no coverage.

Good news! You will still be cared for under pre-existing laws and maybe live a long life....

Tying this to employment might sound arbitrary to some, but it is a method, however crude, of creating a manageable risk pool. If you can work, or even if your family can work, you might be dying on your feet, but you’re still part of a known quantity. You do not need taxpayer subsidization out the wazoo to be viable to be included.

they certainly could have passed a pre-existing law, not one that destroys everything else!

“No one can be denied life saving assistance.”

False.

Cancer treatment rarely qualifies as emergency treatment under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act since cancer normally lacks acute symptoms.

emergency medical condition:

“A medical condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected to result in —
placing the health of the individual (or, with respect to a pregnant woman, the health of the woman or her unborn child) in serious jeopardy,
serious impairment to bodily functions, or
serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part, or

“With respect to a pregnant woman who is having contractions —
that there is inadequate time to effect a safe transfer to another hospital before delivery, or
that the transfer may pose a threat to the health or safety of the woman or her unborn child.”

Also, why didn’t those #########ers interview one of us who has held off on a procedure because obamacare forced health insurance companies to make you cover 30 percent of what used to be free, including outpatients tests

I know a guy who is too lazy to work, so he met a retired public school teacher on one of those "lonely woman seeks..." websites and move in with her in Boston.

She collects a six figure pension, and also owns a rental property (in addition to her house).

He spends his food stamps on things like Maine lobster, etc.

Since moving in with this woman, he has had stents put into his heart arteries, knee and wrist surgeries, and 2 years of leukemia treatments.... and has not had to pay one cent for any of it.

They've been remodeling their house over the last year... top quality expensive stuff.

They're ultra-liberals of course.

It was utterly up to Democrats that they decided to bring “swarms of officers” along for the ride. Obamacare is only partly a “health care” program. It’s also a government sinecure program.

Not only that but the concept that insurance should be used to insure us against the possible advent of catastrophic illness or injury has been lost. If insurance companies are paying for what was once considered routine affordable medical care there will be fewer dollars available for major illness or injury. So they have to keep the probability of paying out for such low. One way is by screening out pre-existing conditions. Another is by raising premiums on everybody. Insurance benefits are not a bottomless payout pit. If more is going out than coming in a company will go under.

I believe that is illegal in a “household” like that. I’ve been on “the stamps” in the past when out of work, and they grilled me on who was in the home supporting it (nobody, just me). He’s committing fraud even on this uber-generous system.

Was probably eligible for Medicaid. If not, then that person has enough money to buy health insurance. Probably needed a new car or some other “priority”.

She's going to get first rate care regardless of whether she is insured.

The ONLY question on the table is: who is going to take the loss?

The hospital group, the taxpayer or the insurance company...

Obamacare ensures it will be the Insurance company.

Thus destroying all private insurance in favor of government funding of all care.

Ironically, it was Insurance companies that were the most ardent supporters of the law. That's what they get for believing unwritten promises.
