When Top Gear brought together the latest Audi R8 V10 Plus, Porsche 911 Turbo S, McLaren 570S and Nissan GT-R on a runway, they must have guessed that the former acceleration king doesn't have a chance against the younger breed. The GT-R is almost a decade old now, and despite having 565 horses and all-wheel drive, it's been proven that even a GT3 RS can beat it both in a straight line and around the bends. It's also the cheapest car of the lot, so fair is fair.
On paper, the Audi R8 V10 Plus should demolish a McLaren 570S in a drag race, packing almost 50 more horsepower and all-wheel drive. But having driven both the 570S and its softer brother, the 570GT, there's one thing I can tell you: when the boost of that 3.8 V8 comes on, you better be pointing forward. These entry-level McLarens might not be as savage as a 675LT or as fast around the track as a 650S with its more advanced suspension, but they aren't running on Diet Coke either.
Up until now, no matter how much money you spent, it was almost impossible to find something that can make a 580 horsepower 911 Turbo S sweat. The Porsche's got a fast PDK gearbox, a smart all-wheel drive system and all the power you could ever ask for. The rear-(mid) engined layout also helps it off the line, and that's exactly why it can reach sixty-two miles per hour 0.4 seconds faster than the rear-wheel drive McLaren 570S, stopping the clock at 2.7 seconds.

I have to admit I have been looking at the McLaren 570s. Beating all these powerful AWD cars in the 1/4 mile running in the 10s range is impressive. The light weight and very strong carbon fiber tub lowers weight to around 3000 lbs wet with 570 hp and V8 twin turbo low rev torque.
Modern performance cars are all faster then the humans can control. Every one.
Starting with the Corvette.
I have had plenty of fast cars and never did that. I have had two 16 year old drivers (with no insurance) hit me head on (one turning left at an intersection on just a green light and one turning into wrong lane to pass backed up traffic and there I was) and one slightly older driver with insurance hit me from behind while I was stopped at a red light.

New performance cars usually have traction, brake and stability control. Those controls cannot overcome physics in bad conditions, but add safety if you are not an insane driver. Older 60’s and 70’s muscle cars had poor handling, brakes and suspension. The drum brakes and brake fade were frightening. I think they are the most dangerous.
The Mercedes AMG GTS is one I have looked at too. I have started one, but not driven one. They have great V8 engine noise even with the turbos.
I have a Toyota 4-runner as a work horse and dog hauler. Not quite a Rubicon, but it has been off road all over the Colorado Rockies. It has 230k miles on it and hardly a problem.
If I ever do get another car I won't part with my 4Runner.
In my 1997 4-runner I have replaced 2 starters and 2 batteries. The starter is too close to the exhaust manifold. I may fashion a heat shield and get another 200k miles.

I think fast cars are very cool, though I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford one. So I stick with bikes, and the end results from crashing a bike are far worse than in any car. I’d never heard of a McLaren 570S, so I searched for images. The one I posted stood out from the rest, for obvious reasons, so I posted it. My intent was not to upset you.

Can you post airline death rates per mile on a US carrier, vs the per mile death rate on cars with 500+ horsepower?
The cars I have been looking at are 911 Turbo S, McLaren 570S, Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 488. I have 3 other vehicles and probably would not get rid of any of them: Toyota 4Runner, Mercedes C300 4Matic, Audi S6.
Living near Denver I have Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini dealerships nearby. The closest McLaren dealership is in Dallas. They say no problem on service, just put it on a car hauler to us and we will send it back. Inconvenient compared to the others.
Problem is that I like the Mclaren the best with 488 a tie except price.

But motorcycle death per mile and subcompact car deaths per mile are probably up there too. For 40 years now I have always had a car capable of more than 150 mph and flown on airlines all over the world. So for me it is the same. My problem with driving is that there are so many suicidal idiots on the road and I cannot plan for them. It does not depend on what I drive.
