Today’s men are not nearly as strong as their dads were, researchers say

A man’s hands say a lot about him. My own father, at 66, still has the calloused, gnarled hands of a guy who did competitive weightlifting in college and spent much of his career grappling with 1,500-pound dairy cattle as a large animal veterinarian. I, on the other hand, have the soft palms of a modern-day desk jockey. My hands are delicate, well-moisturized, and prone to blisters if I spend too much time in the garden.

And I’m not the only one. A new study in press at the Journal of Hand Therapy (yes, a real thing) finds that millennial men may have significantly weaker hands and arms than men the same age did 30 years ago.

Researchers measured the grip strength (how strongly you can squeeze something) and pinch strength (how strongly you can pinch something between two fingers) of 237 healthy full-time students aged 20 to 34 at universities in North Carolina. And especially among males, the reduction in strength compared to 30 years ago was striking. …

As far as the source goes, I have never even heard of the so-called Journal of Hand Therapy until today.

My Father was a 6’1 lean NYPD Lieutenant, I saw him go into ‘Cop Mode’ one day at Coney Island, when my brother was been ripped off. It was a sight...

What you just posted really puts things in perspective.

And your tagline, in light of this, is right on.

And those same hormones would be what’s causing 14 year old girls to look like fully grown women. It’s a little scary.

Scary. You could be right.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children’s ice cream.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: [very nervous] Lord, Jack.

General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don’t, Jack.

General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen... tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?

General Jack D. Ripper: [somewhat embarassed] Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.

General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.

General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.

General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

I've had people refer to my fingers as tiny sausages.

I've had people comment after shaking my hand how large they are. (not in length, in thickness)

I was at a church retreat a number of years ago. Once we held hands, in a circle and prayed. Afterwards, the woman next to me asked me what I did. She said she hadn't felt hands like mine since her, brothers, father and grandfather, with the thick callouses. All farmers.

Problem with hands like mine, I can't reach my thumb over to my pinky, to hold up three fingers. The muscle in my hand below my thumb gets in the way.

Doing small work with my fingers gets very tiring.

Ever try to dial or text with todays cell phones, using hot dogs on the tiny buttons?

“is 37 a millennial?”

No.

As someone who is 37 also, NEVER make that mistake again.

I can prove the feminization of millennial men with two worlds: “skinny jeans”.

Parachute pants in the 80s were pretty bad too - “Hammer Time” for metros. I have to admit that I owned one pair in the 80s. I wore them a couple times in the 80s until I had to run a mile in -10° weather from the school bus to a wresting tournament and it was like running in liquid ice. Last time I wore them.

You’re old enough to be the “dad” they’re talking about, so didn’t you just prove the article true?

Mother dominated, man hating (especially white men), single parent upbringing. Encouraged by media, government education and agenda driven politics. Otherwise, known as social engineering.

The onset of the accessible tech revolution also spawned some soft nerds which didn’t exist so much before. Instead of skinny, they were tubby techie nerds.

Just look at the fairies in the back ground when Clinton talks or anyone Dem crowd.

Buinch of fairies who have never had a fight in their life, are into drama, and think the world is about them.
