Robert De Niro says Donald Trump is like the main character of the legendary 1976 movie “Taxi Driver,” the mentally disturbed Travis Bickle.

During a question-and answer session Saturday at the Sarajevo Film Festival, De Niro said, like Bickle, the U.S. Republican presidential candidate is where he shouldn’t be.

“God help us,” he added. …

The soundtrack is superb. I have a link to an amazing live performance of Morricone’s, “On Earth as it is in Heaven,” about halfway down my homepage. Check it out :)

He was known to be on the dark side quite a while ago here on FR. No surprise at all at this latest thing.

Again we have a person that makes his living pretending to be someone else pretending to be relevant. Is there some reason an intelligent person should care what this sham of a person says?

Deniro a very talented actor. He ,like almost all actors just role play and never show their real personality, why are we taking any of them seriously? They play dress up and make believe all their public life. Very very few have the capacity to enter the real world after role playing so long

I like De Niro. He’s a great actor.

I liked him a lot too. A shame he seems not to realize he alienates a large percentage of his fans when he vents his political views. You'd think he'd understand that we're his customers.

He is a great actor tho Robert Mitchum was far better in “Cape Fear”. DeNiro just did not get the character right.

He sounds like a political idiot tho.

Shut up and act, Mr. Dinero.

Well, try to act. Saw Dirty Grandpa. Ugh. Lowest common denominator humor, just nasty and adolescent. Sad to see.

Richard Burton he certainly is not.

Nor socially or politically astute.

Hello, have you seen his movies? The man just melts into his roles. All of his movies kick ass. Even Rocky and Bullwinkle.

“A great actor? Based on what?”

He is a great actor. Can’t take that from him. He just needs to shut up and act. The media uses celebrity to try to validate their own opinions.

How can it be that, since Trump has been in the public eye for decades, has acquired billions of dollars in a very difficult field of endeavor, has had a very successful TV show for years, no one could perceive that he was mentally disturbed until now?

How can a mentally disturbed person acquire the trust of financial geniuses around the world and keep it for decades and these financial geniuses not be able to pick it up? How can a mentally disturbed person have a prime time TV show for many seasons and not alert the public to his mental disturbance?

And, I assume Robert De Niro has acquired billions of dollars of assets and has done it by not memorizing and delivering lines from a script written by someone else, but has engaged in honest, productive work.

And I also assume that De Niro can put forth credentials that verify his ability to assess Trump’s mental state from a distance and can show evidence for his analysis, other than his desire to kiss up to his liberal Hollywood employers.

De Niro, you not the courageous take charge character in real life that you trick everyone into believing you are in film.

There are several “great actors” that are virtually devoid of common sense.

He’s a very good actor within a limited range. As a NYC tough guy, mobster, retired CIA guy, etc.

I once said to a friend that DeNiro always played one role, an Italian tough guy. My friend said "no, he has more range than that. In Goodfellas his character was an Irish tough guy. He had a point.

It bought Dinero did an excellent job of potraying himself in Taxi Driver. He would know whether someone is nuts enough to think like he does or not
