I'd say just shut up period. De Niro did some great films back in the 70's and 80's (including Taxi Driver), but almost everything he's done in the past 20+ years has been trash. Maybe he's become political lately to compensate for the fact that he's been for all intents and purposes finished as an actor for years.
No one ever said you have to be intelligent to be a good actor. Prime example. No one cares anyway.

A lifetime surrounded by ‘yes men’ has that effect on the ego. All these celbritards are so worshipped and adored they believe they can do no wrong and every vacuous thought they have is gospel. I don’t know these people. I have as much respect for them as they do for me. My whole life I’ve only met 3 celebrities. ONE came out to say hi to the crew that was fixing up his yard and chat with us about how much he appreciated our hard work. That was James Woods about 17 years ago when I was flat broke doing labor in LA.
