President Obama hosted Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Ho Ching at the 12th state dinner of his administration tonight in Washington.
The black-tie affair called by the White House a 'celebration of summer bounty' marked the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between the U.S. and the city-state, which Obama refers to as an anchor for the U.S. presence in Southeast Asia.(snip)
For tonight's festivities first lady Michelle Obama donned a strapless, ivory gown by American designer Brandon Maxwell the longtime stylist to pop singer Lady Gaga who's a red carpet favorite.
Maxwell, originally from Longview, Texas, became a household name because of his work with Lady Gaga, but has also dressed stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Wiig and Uma Thurman.
The guest list was studded with diplomats - including U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, as well as those at the top of their game in the arts, literary and business worlds.
One of the first couples to arrive were the two biggest celebrities at tonight's dinner Matthew Rhys and his partner Keri Russell, who play Russian spies pretending to be U.S. citizens on the television show 'The Americans.'
'They asked if I had papers,' joked Rhys (snip)
'Now, we all know how seriously Singaporeans take their food,' Obama said.
'In Singapore, even the street vendors the hawker stalls earn Michelin stars, which creates some pressure this evening,' he continued.
'We have a lot to live up to,' the president added.
He said he was tempted to have his kitchen concoct some 'Singapore Slings,' a popular pink cocktail

amen!
amen
She looks like a burrito from Chipotle.
Goes with her wig I suppose.
Tranny-alert.
I'll respectfully disagree with you. Give Michelle credit for making it fashionable for women and girls to wear dresses again. Also give her credit for making fashion choices fun and a way to express ones personality.
Sometimes Michelle's fashion choices are real great, sometimes not so much. She's a big woman (it's genetic, not to be criticized) and some things don't work. Like with her dark skin fading into the background, this dress looks like a giant white blob oozing along. White actually only works on someone who isn't skinny if it's a simple dress. Might've been better if her hair were down to frame her pretty face. JMHO
I have to say something that earns me “three meows” (proudly so) about hillary’s “style”. A few days ago she was wearing a large-print black, white, and dark green circus elephant frock instead of a blouse. It looked like she was trying to provide camouflage for a skunk.
Moochelle Dick, ahab is looking for you.
The designer had to custom make this gown, because it didn't come in 'mini-behemoth' size.
Unflattering, ugh.
“pretty face”? You’ve GOT to be kidding, she is NOT pretty in any way, shape or form.
She patently is NOT. She is a rabid America-hating liberal who has an army of stylists, chemists, haute couturists, and adoring pandering sycophants that perpetuate this myth of high culture with her.
Absolutely nothing of the sort that a normal woman of her prior stature could attain were it not for being married to a Muslim zealot.
Totally disagree in the strongest way possible!
Freepers: You have made my day. I am so sick of watching the fawning media sing this woman’s praises. I know someone from Chicago who knew Mooch “before”....she would sit in a restaurant in the corner with her groupies..hair pulled back in a frizzy bun, frumpily dressed, with a sullen “hate Whitey” stare. My what a difference a few years and a cast of a thousand stylists can make!
Jumped out of bed, wrapped a sheet around her headed to the bathroom.
As in, “Wow, is she an ugly b*tch or what...”
I think the indictment of that dress is more effective with something complementary to prove that I’m not biased. My opinion of Michelle’s dress and hairstyle are totally objective, and not influenced at all by other factors.
