At almost all other Trump events masked thugs attack Trump supporters and try to disrupt events. Leftist groups had threatened to block the streets and shut down the convention.
There were demonstrations but almost no assaults.
Do you think this is because demonstrators thought Trump supporters might be legally armed? Did the demonstrators not want to risk getting shot during one of their assaults?
God forgive me but I hope Philadelphia proves gun free zones are not good.

In the 1980s, in Los Angeles, there was a rash of road-rage shootings. One thing everyone noticed, as the incidents got publicized, was that drivers became much ‘nicer’.
While I don’t agree with shooting someone that cuts you off and delays your arrival time at Tommy’s by 0.00047 seconds, the effect was still real.
(but, come to think of it, a delay in arriving to Tommy’s, or In-and-Out, may be worth the threat of some lead...but not definitely not a shooting)

The only violence at Cincinnati were radical groups who attacked and even peed (according to Free Republic reports) on each other.

I’d like to think the well planned, incredible police presence, and the intense security measures put in place had something to do with the lack of mischief at the convention, but of course if the would-be perpetrators of such mischief feared lawful carry weapons that would have made it even better.
The Dallas shootings destroyed and broad based sympathy for the #BLM movement and exposed #BLM for the domestic terrorist organization it is.
The Dallas shootings also validated Donald Trump's predictions and and showed that he is a serious policy player not some tin foil hat loon the discredited media has tried to make him out to be .
Donald Trump is now the odds on favorite to win the election in November with Rudy Giuliani as a shoo in for heading the DOJ or the DHS and the Democrats are terrified. Donald is willing to go there and Giuliani is salivating at the mere thought of bring those responsible for the deaths and maiming of so many police officers to justice

The leadership that is organizing, funding and pulling the strings of #BLM is an open secret in Washington and Barak Obama, George Soros, Hillary and Bill Clinton, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, and a big slice of the network talking heads and the rest of the #BLM crew don't want to spend the rest of their lives in Gitmo or doing hard labor in Ft Leavenworth as domestic terrorists and accomplices to the murder or non fatal shootings of 20+ police officers.
With Trump, very little happens by accident
Perhaps the calendar entry was in cursive. The first 2 options don’t seem to carry enough weight for people with no future to worry about.
Wearing masks at protest should and likely is a crime. Thou should be arrested for that. Attacked a CCW armed citizen might be death sentence. I doubt this prevented most demos. I think it was mostly media hype, but in this case it did not inspire others.

I agree with your speculation.
I have a scanner app on my phone and was listening each night for a few minutes. Many people were reporting when they saw groups of people and the police responded immediately. I heard about some wearing masks, wearing black, trying to hang a blm sign and carrying backpacks. They tamped down on it ASAP, thankfully. We didn’t need a Ca type situation where our supporters were ambushed and abused by dems and blm.
Kinda doubt the latter--gives them too much credit.
