I know because I share that same fear. I won’t go closer than 5 feet, and that is on a brave day!!! LOL

I don't have such a fear, but when we were on the observation floor of the Sears Tower (now called Wyllis or something) my wife would not let me step onto the heavy duty enclosed glass platform that juts out the side of the building. I am not petite, but I am sure those are rated for a high amount of weight. Her fear influenced my behavior.

So why bother to mention the fact that she took a selfie hours before, when it had nothing to do with her fall?

Maybe the family wants to sue the cell phone company for having the dangerous selfie capability installed on her phone. The camera app should of course be programmed to not work in any dangerous situation!

When traveling I like to stay at Hyatt Regency hotels. Many of them have center courtyards with each floor having walkways that allow you to look down into the courtyard and the other side of the walkway opens into the rooms. I always walk right up against the wall, as far away from the open section as I can.

A couple weeks ago I was staying at the one in New Orleans (see below pic) assigned to a room on the 25th floor. I hated the elevator ride up because they have glass elevators.

She must not have been a native Floridian. From my exposure in the NC mountains, they’re usually very fearful of heights, disoriented by it. Had to drive the resort van out and rescue them several times after they got vertigo driving on US 64 and couldn’t drive any further.

These were fairly elderly people, though. Maybe in younger people, lack of familiarity means underestimating the risk of falling.

I don’t stand at the edge of the subway platform. Not from fear of toppling in but fear of being pushed in just at the train approaches. I know it is unlikely but it does happen.

BTW, there is no mention of a "Selfie" in the article and the photo referenced is definitely not a selfie.

I must admit that for the first couple of minutes of my one visit to the rooftop observation deck of the World Trade Center I was a bit nervous despite the fact that you couldn't get within 100 feet of the edge.

We visited Yosemite a few years back, just a couple of days after three people were killed in a horrific tragedy. A young women ventured out into the stream to get a better picture. She slipped, and two men perished when they tried to save her.

That was a year when the waterfalls were gushing from the previous winter's record snowpack. The water wasn't more than knee deep, but the current was strong and the footing was treacherous.

I have the comfort of knowing that she'd rather have me than one of the biggest out of court settlements for a single negligence death in history, and all the talk show interviews she could possibly want.

I don’t even visit skyscrapers.

When my kids were little and we had to go over a high bridge I would say “Do not move.”-—— until we got to the other side. Pretty sad.:-)
