Please pray for our very sick kitty [Update 368]

If you love pets and animals and sometimes pray for them, I'm asking if you could say a little prayer for our kitty Ciel. She is only five years old, a sweet, smart Balinese. She was perfectly healthy and active until two days ago, when she started vomiting foam and stopped eating.

Today we took her in to the vet and she has acute renal failure and diabetes. He gave her IV fluids, some meds to fight nausea etc, and a little insulin. We are to give her sub q fluids and try to get her to eat. He says that she can recover completely but she needs to eat and keep food down. He gives her a 60% chance of survival because she is young and it is acute.

We love her so. She is usually riding on my son's shoulders or fetching toys for us to throw. Or annoying her older "sister" cat. It's unbearable to see her like this.

Thanks in advance for your prayers.

Here is a guaranteed cure for your kitty’s renal failure:

Go to healthfood store in the morning, buy a bag of fresh Juniper berries.

Smash a big handful of them, and put in a 1 quart pan of water and slow boil them into a strong tea.

Cool the tea, and put in an eye-dropper bottle, and give the cat 4 or 5 full droppers every hour until she urinates freely.

The tendency for diabetes can be greatly reduced by adding saturated Potassium Iodide to the tea. (it will perk up her metabolism by stimulating her thyroid gland).

Some species of juniper are toxic, I don’t know how wise this suggestion is.

I would also advise - if your vet hasn’t yet - to feed her only wet canned food from now on. Dry cat food is not healthy for diabetic kitties.

I’ll be praying for her recovery and many happy, healthy years to come enjoying her love and presence in your lives.

Chocolate is a no no for cats, too.

It’s not nonsense that some species of juniper berry are toxic.

Sadly or not, we don’t have a single indoor plant! They don’t go well with preschoolers anyway.

My older sons some times get their own Advil. Sometimes in the dark. I’ve asked them and they don’t remember doing it or dropping one in the last week and the floors are cleaned every week. But I suppose there is a chance she found one, that could do this poisoning. Who knows.

Thanks so much. We don’t do dry. It isn’t healthy and it attracts rats. It has something in it to get them “addicted” to the taste like cat msg, lol. So we get healthy natural canned food.

I am so thrilled to hear that this “forced” feeding saved your cats. We are worried that she needs to want to eat to be saved.

Tonight she has shown me she doesn’t like me any more. I come in and get her in the towel and feed her these nasty things. So she will get up and try to walk out when I come, and sit in the doorway with her back to me! And she is struggling harder against me when I feed her. And I’m happy to feel that struggle in her!!

Your story really means a lot to us. Thanks.

Once she has recovered & is allowed to forego forced feeding, she will forgive. Of course, you know this & accept the price. I am so glad of your success, as I arrive late to this thread & am unable to give very useful advice.

As a diabetic myself, we are to take dairy products at only moderate amounts. Good on you with the baby chicken diet.

That said, my better half has turned our cat into a dairy fiend. At least, it is he whom I blame. Silly, lactose-intolerant darn cat vomits it back up. So only a few licks from the empty bowl of whatever - ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese - & then dispose of it quick or she’ll be wearing the bowl.

Beautiful little feline, your Ciel.

She must have gotten into something poison, could be in error too not malice, but from the sounds of it and in my past experience, that is what it sounds like.

Get well please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miss Fluffy, Queen of cats, growled at me through most of her feedings. Cats are funny, they'll shut down and not eat when that's what they really need to do. If we didn't force them, their little systems would just cease to work.

Glad to hear how you feel about dry food. Most people don't understand what it does to felines.

I have confidence that your baby will be better in no time!

Hi Yaelle, late to the thread but I wanted to mention a very good food for diabetic cats, the DM formula from Purina Veterinary Diets. It is only available thru the vet.

I had a wonderful long haired orange and white female who became diabetic at the age of 9. We gave her insulin twice a day for a couple years. Then we moved to a different city and was recommended this food. It worked so well that we were able to forego the insulin after only a month! Then she lived to be 17 1/2! Made me kinda mad that the old vet never mentioned it...

The new vet explained to me that cats mainly become diabetic due to weight issues (wwhich is obviously not the case with your kitty but could become a factor later in life, especially if she is small) and the DM was like "Atkins Diet for cats." Very little carbohydrates which is much closer to their natural intake. It was a little pricey but worked like a charm. Still, it probably cost less than the diabetic supplies and boarding when we went away, etc.

Our other cat ate it too, and boy was he a healthy, shiny little thing. Keep in mind they ate nothing else, that is key in keeping their glucose levels good.

In the meantime, I think the baby food meats are a great idea, and organic chicken cooking stock (not broth, that is different) is a great idea. I fed this to a kitty with an infected tooth who would not eat and it helped pull him thru. Just be careful of the other ingredients, no onions etc. But stock has a lot more chicken and nutrients vs broth so that's why I went with it.

Good luck to you and Ciel, you are in my prayers! :)

Some people think animals don't "think" or "feel". But let me assure you they do. Little Ciel doesn't like what you are doing to her, right now. It's hard. It's uncomfortable. It seems mean. In time she will know you saved her life. When doing the tough stuff, just show her that you love her. She won't like the tough stuff any more, but she'll respond to your love.

I had to have a tumor removed from my dog a few months back. Molly was lethargic and not acting herself. Barely eating. That's when I found the lump near her lower belly. About as long as my thumb, as big around as a plump hot dog.

The tumor was removed as well as her being spayed (at 10-1/2 years old).

Had to keep her quiet for a few days, in order for her to heal, as well as ointment on the incision.

But for 2 weeks after, she slept in my bed, NEXT to me. She knew I took care of her, even though it wasn't fun and she felt terrible.

She still sleeps with me, but she chooses the floor next to the bed. In fact, she TELLS me when it's time to go to bed. She comes by me and looks at me, as if talking (which she is). If I don't respond properly, she looks at my bedroom door, to tell me it's time for bed. She can push the door open if she wants and I usually tell her to do just that and to go to bed. After 3-4 times of me telling her, she'll usually go in on her own, begrudgingly. Other times I have to get up to go in. THEN she pushes the door open, enthusiastically. If I don't stay in there, she'll stay 5-10 minutes and then come back out to get me, or lay by my feet.

Ciel will be fine. Just keep lovin on her.

Its nonsense.

People have been making gin from juniper berries of every known species for over 1000 years, and eating the same to cure renal problems for over 3000 years.

Herbal suppliers do not sell poison, either. (Doctors, not so much)

Thanks, Titan. When I went in just now, UPDATE:

Ciel looked bedraggled and not too beautiful. Her big blue eyes look so sad. But where was she this morning?? Up on the high platform bed with her “daddy” who was sleeping in. She was sitting in Egyptian position, and up high, meaning she had to do some jumping to get up there. He doesn’t take her up so she can be down near water etc. So strength is slowly returning if she leapt up there (there is a barstool to help her)!

Then she came down by herself and sauntered out the door. She went downstairs and sat forlornly looking into the downstairs water bowl. She does this, sits in front of the water bowl and doesn’t drink. I read this is common in cats with kidney issues. Anyway, I was ready for her with a food concoction and Med, so we went upstairs and she got her nasty meds, plus I have started giving her water by mouth too, then 15 ml (more than ever) of her favorite cat food mixed with coconut oil, vitamin b, a bit of acidophilus, and a few grains of Celtic salt for minerals.

I’m glad to see strength returning but she still is drooling and not grooming. I took her to the enclosed litter box and was happy she did her thing, but then she sat in there and just sat. So I had to pull her out.

At noon will do the daily fluid injection.

We agree, she was perfectly fine one day and sick the next. She got into something. She chews stuff so we don’t know what it was, maybe we will never know. If she found a dropped Advil that could have been it. We just don’t know.

Thanks so much. Her cat food is as good, with all the protein too. We are careful to check labels. The best ones are the top of the line ones from Weruva who don’t even use carrageenan. However, right now, those, with their real chunks of chicken are hard to eat, even after blending. So we are using the pate kinds, still very high quality, and of course the baby food.

Thanks for your prayers. I’m going to call the vet and see if we can get her insulin if she takes the amount of food she is taking. He said insulin without food is bad. He gave her a little on Saturday.

I love hearing about your dog talking to you. Hell yeah she was feeling pain from that tumor. Ciel doesn’t feel too good either, and her sad blue eyes are so dark and different from her playful blue eyes. My previous update just now showed that strength is coming back with these forced feedings. She did what your dog did, and made it up to a high platform bed to be near my teenage son, her “daddy.” First time since she’s been sick.

Molly telling you it’s bedtime is so sweet. “Cmon man, I’m serious. In case you forgot, the door is thataway.”
