Antique SKS rifle used by Dallas Killer (No Ar-15 used)

Initial reports from Dallas described multiple snipers with AR-15s #weaponsofwar. The ongoing propaganda theme among the tabloids is that the AR-15 has become the weapon of choice for terrorists and mass shooters. It turns out that the terrorist in Dallas question used an antique, the SKS, (according to CBS News) but the facts never keep the press from a good propaganda theme.

The SKS was designed in the 40’s in Russia. It is such a basic rifle that it is legal in California with no modification. With its fixed ten round magazine, the SKS is everything that the gun haters in California say a rifle must be. It is not black, no pistol grip, no flash hider or folding stock. It even shoots a intermediate power cartridge, 7.63 X 39. It is used as a cheap hunting gun across the US. I am sure that at this moment, some law maker in California is writing new legislation to close the mad man with an antique rifle loophole.

Correct. No legislation proposed state or federal gun control law would have stopped this racist from murder. He had no record so he passed every background check. The weapon used wasn’t an “assault rifle”, not even in California.

Some cop cars riddled with bullets look like they were hit with a .30 caliber projectile.

But if you scroll down on this site you can see that the side impact is clearly .22 caliber bullet holes.

Sounds like more BS.

I agree I thought it was an AKM in 7.62x39.
Looking at the video you can’t tell, but the SKS is a very long cumbersome weapon.

He may not have known about it. I bet the whole thing caught him by surprise. They probably remoted it behind him out of his view and underneath cars (if there were any).

I was asking about this last night on another thread. I had read it on another web site but no proof was shown.

If no one has brought it up, it is not an antique. It is a C and R (curio and relic) rifle. Antiques are 1898 and before. An 03 FFL (easy to get about $35) is needed to buy one by mail. In general C and R rifles are 50 years old or better. No full auto, cannons, etc. qualify no matter how old. The ATF keeps a list of C and R weapons.

FPS Russia’s “armed drone” was CGI. It was a promotional for Call of Duty.

Imagine the damage that could be done with the antique battle rifle known as the M-1 Garand.

8 round magazine with stripper clips, 30.06.

The 6 officers that survived would now be dead.

With relatively cheap optics and two days practice one could maintain a 300+ meter standoff distance and it would take the cops a couple of hours to figure out where the shooting was coming from.

And it would pop through 90% of the "bullet proof" vests in circulation. Hell, there is still WWII and Korean War vintage armor piercing ammo avail that would pierce ALL vests used anywhere by anyone.

A victim could die from a leg wound in 10mins.

I had no problem with the shooter getting dead. What I do have a very big problem with is when any policing agency decides to become judge, jury and executioner. The robot bomb thing is just wrong.

Defilade was first developed and mastered by the American Revolutionaries and practiced with the American Long Rifle from distance.

The tactic which defeated the biggest and strongest army since the Romans...Britain.

What’s with Dallas and antique rifles being used for killing? On a Friday 53 years ago, we were also glued to the TV after a shooting/killing/assassination there.

The SKS entered service in 1943, so it was designed well before the end of the war. The AK-47, OTOH, entered into service in 1947 (surprise!), and was the brain child of a wounded Soviet tanker...i.e. it was conceived if during the war.

I'm glad my buddy found the Lord. He told me he used to enjoy hurting people and he's been into Brazilian JuJitsu for many years. I've seen him turn a he-man bodybuilder into a whining baby...so yeah I know exactly what you mean...lol

“At one time they were selling for as low as $69. I wish I had bought a case of them.”

I bought one at the local farm supply store for $89. Chinese paratrooper model with 16” barrel and spike bayonet. Very nice fit and finish. Blond stock that I re finished with oil. It’s a beauty and shoots well. The farm store sold the longer version by the dozens. Made a great “truck gun”.

Defilade tactics were used earlier than the War of Independence (for instance, the tactic was used twenty years earlier during the French & Indian War, but by many of the same people — the American colonists — who later mastered it during the WOI). So, you’re right in that the same people were involved.

“”Being military trained, he realized that stationary shooters get flanked very quickly. That is why you shoot and move. To keep from being flanked.””

From what I’m hearing his training consisted of basic and had a construction MOS. He never saw combat and his medals consisted of your standard participation medals. The fact that he was a PFC after 6 years is another tell. You have to work real hard not to get E-4 to E-5 in 6 years, reserves or not. I made E-5 in 2 years and that was in 71.

Really? Damn, fooled again. I grew up with Claymation and Ray Harryhousen. After Jurassic Park it got harder and harder for me to tell.

You just need to remove the box mag to be able to use higher capacity mags. Takes 30 secs.

I do remember seeing the kits that used ak mags.

“all these people spouting off ignorance about guns again! LOL”

And you with a picture of a ruined M model sks.....

You do realize there was never a paratrooper model of the sks right? And whomever cut down that Sks-m you have there ruined the resale.

Also with a mill you can get any sks to accept ak mags so watch for that trick when buying. M models command a much higher price....thus alot of bastard m models are around.
