One of the arguments against using sea water is that the process produces a lot of strong brine. The EPA is fretting about the damage it would do to put concentrated brine back into the coastal waters.
I’m just sitting here, rolling my eyes. Wishing that I could remind all of these wonks that this is one method of producing much-needed salt. Good quality salt, at that.
There’s no need to put the brine back in the ocean at all. Just let it evaporate, treat the minerals that are left, and keep the salt.

I think that you err on your use of "Federalist" in this case. The common usage of "Federalist" is adherence to the 'originalist' interpretation deriving from the US Constitution. Thus, it means less power to the National Government and more to the various State Governments. My personal vote would be to substitute "Big Government" as more accurate and descriptive.
I’m becoming increasingly interested in people from other states having to obtain a visa to get into mine. I think liberals should have to live in the cess pits they created.
And when everyone lives in the teeming urban areas, where will the food come from?

The problem is not just potable water, but also water for agriculture and to support wildlife habitat. When all the demands for water are taken into account, large scale engineering projects may be the best solution, moving water from where it is in excess (Canada) to where it is needed (California). Some Canadians may scream about it at first, but compensating benefits to Canada may make such a project politically palatable and genuinely beneficial to both countries.

I think Canadians would not be crazy about your idea. But wait, try it out on American residents of states bordering the Great Lakes. You will find little to no support for this idea among those people either.

At some point people will start colonizing underground in the antarctic using thorium reactors for power and vertical farming for food. Carving out the settlements will provide the thorium fuel needed to power the colony, and large underground domes can be built with artificial skies for parks.
Some of us will have to flee there to escape the political oppression caused by socialism’s “good intentions”....
High speed rail will only work .... underground... because you can seal it off from weather, reduce the amount of animals you have to deal with and increase the speeds of the trains because you can keep the temperature and humidity constant.
There is not a single passenger train which is not subsidized, not a single operation turns a profit.
