I have also had students shove me, wave meter sticks and math pointers close in around my face, threaten me with bodily harm ("I gonna f__ you up!"), throw my backpack to the floor, tell me they don't have to listen to me because I'm white, disconnect the phone when I attempted to call for assistance to the classroom, lay hands on me, leave the classroom at will, attempt to block my access to the classroom door when class was over, and NOTHING of any consequence was done to them. They were free to behave in this manner with little to no consequences whatsoever, so afraid the administration is of issuing too many suspensions to minority students. They'd rather a teacher leave on a stretcher (as one colleague did last year) than discipline one of these thugs.

And another thing. School administrations are so afraid of lawsuits they will even allow pipe bombs to be made on a high school campus. Happened in Albuquerque until the police actually raided the school and stopped it. No repercussions to the students involved.

As a retired North Carolina HS science teacher I hear you. Over my 30+ years it only got worse in the last few years after Obama took office and Holder, I believe told school systems to revamp their discipline policies. This meant to keep the trouble makers in school and in class at all cost. The students felt empowered, need I say more.

Wonder if charges can be brought against a student that makes these kind of threats. Turn on phone recorder and if the school administrators refuse to bring charges threaten to go directly to the police. Don’t pull any punches aND be prepared to follow through.
