Killer Nile crocodiles in Florida? Experts say it's possible
AP ^ | May 19, 2016 | Terry Spencer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Step aside, Burmese python — you may no longer be Florida's scariest invasive species. Researchers have confirmed that three Nile crocodiles were captured near Miami, and they say it's possible more of the man-eating reptiles are still out there, although no one can say for sure.

The big question now: How did they get to Florida?

"They didn't swim from Africa," University of Florida herpetologist Kenneth Krysko said. "But we really don't know how they got into the wild."

I often wonder why some of the really bad foreign poisonous snakes haven’t got a foot hold in parts of the southern US yet. I often wonder if terrorists wouldn’t be doing stuff like that.

[[Someone’s little exotic pet croc ended up getting washed into the swamp, and the rest is history.]]

Probably the Crandon Park Zoo’s little exotic pet .
When they closed the zoo and opened Miami Metro Zoo
they left tons of exotics including crocs in the old park

SNL should do a skit where they’re bringing in Salties to control the Nile croc population.

It is unlikely that a croc and gator can breed (but if they do, let’s call it a crocogator).

While there can be inter-species breeding (like tiger and lion), inter-genus breeding is much tougher (impossible?) due to DNA and chromosomal differences. Crocs and gators belong to different genus.

I was just thinking that it might never happen because there was always members of the same species around for breeding. So they wouldn’t ‘get desperate.’ I know gators have displays and male bellowing that probably helps them get lucky with other female alligators, not sure if croc females would dig it or if the male crocs do something similar. So crocs maybe could breed with another kind of croc?

“I wonder if one species of crocodile can interbreed with another breed of crocodile. I also wonder if alligators can breed with crocodiles.”

Im thinking yes. Its probably like us dating a James Bond woman.

I wonder why they aren’t already there. It seems like someone would have tried it by now.

“Crocs and gators belong to different genus.”

They can’t read. And when a croc sees a gator wiggling that sexy little tail......mmmmmmmm
