Washington (AFP) - Global warming could make the planet far hotter than currently projected because today's scientific models do not correctly account for the influence of clouds, researchers said this week.
The study in the journal Science was led by researchers at Yale University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
When climate scientists look ahead to how much the planet's surface temperature may warm up in response to a doubling of carbon dioxide -- a byproduct of fossil fuel burning -- they typically predict a rise of between 2.1 and 4.7 degrees Celsius (3.75 to 8.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
But these models overestimate the ability of clouds to reflect back sunlight, and counteract warming in Earth's atmosphere, researchers said.
"We found that the climate sensitivity increased from four degrees Celsius in the default model to five to 5.3 degrees Celsius in versions that were modified to bring liquid and ice amounts into closer agreement with observations," said lead author Ivy Tan, a researcher at Yale University.
The problem is most models assume there is more ice in clouds than there actually is.

Clouds = water vapor = 99% of the Earth’s greenhouse gases.
We know they will be wrong, as they have been for the past twenty years or so.

Ever see any of those old Sci-fi movies where the guy goes to another planet, where the population is very backwards and superstitious, fearful of everything? He pulls out his lighter to have a smoke and they all thought he was God because he could make fire and blow smoke?

During the 1970s the media promoted global cooling alarmism with dire threats of a new ice age. Extreme weather events were hyped as signs of the coming apocalypse and man-made pollution was blamed as the cause. Environmental extremists called for everything from outlawing the internal combustion engine to communist style population controls.

Someday not too long from now, the sun will scorch those that are left on earth (Rev. 16:8-9). But in a little over 1000 years,the earth will become a fireball (2 Peter 3:7; See also Rev. 20:11).
Can I ask some stupid questions?
Does anyone really know how much man contributes to global warming, vs. how much is due to natural conditions which we have no control over?
There have been numerous ice ages in earth’s history? During the last ice age, Chicago was buried under a mile of ice. Wasn’t it actually beneficial that we had global warming since then, to make the northern hemisphere inhabitable?
And since these previous ice ages all happened before the industrial revolution, clearly man had not reached a point of creating pollution which liberals claim is behind glogal warming. The earth warmed in the past due to natural cycles, which we may not fully understand anyway.
Even if we accept the premise that there is global warming, are all of the consequences negative? For example, the midwest is a productive agricultural region. Yet they have long severe winters in the midwest. Wouldn’t that region be much more productive in agriculture, if we did have global warming??
Even if we accept the premise that we will see rising sea levels and all that, won’t these changes happen over a long period of time, even centuries, which would give us all plenty of time to adapt?
Even if we have to abandon some parts of coastal cities due to rising sea levels, won’t we adapt; would such an event really be the end of the world as we know it??
These are just some things which come to mind when the issue of global warming comes up. And some questions as I’ve noted here, seem to be questions which the liberals who push global warming have no coherent answers to.
