Wife rips off her Romanian husband’s testicles with her bare hands after he refused to

A Romanian woman tore off her husband's left testicle after he failed to give her flowers on International Women's Day and then refused to help with the housework.

Ionel Popa, 39, from Vaslui County in the north east of the country, was rushed to hospital with his scrotum torn open after his wife Marinela Benea, 40, launched a vicious attack.

The mother-of-one grabbed hold of her husband's testicles and pulled violently during the argument.

Mr Popa's left testicle was left hanging out of his scrotum after the skin was ripped apart.

He was forced to undergo emergency surgery to repair the damage and remains in a stable condition.

Following the incident, Ms Benea said she did not know her own strength, adding that her husband deserved what had happened to him.

She said: 'Ionel had been given a bottle of wine for a day’s work instead of getting paid, and had arrived home drunk.

'When he gets drunk, he changes. All night he made me keep the fire on because he was cold and I did it to avoid having an argument.

'In the morning I opened the curtains and told him to go out and do some work, or at least to help with the household chores but he shouted that I’m not entitled to give him orders.

'I told him he was not any kind of man and I grabbed his testicles.

'It was not my fault that he pulled away, and that’s when it happened.

'I thought maybe that some ice would solve the problem, but he insisted on calling an ambulance.

'He was pretty annoyed.'

aren’t gypsy testicles worth something on the black market?

Only if they are crystal balls.

The lack of flowers wasn’t the reason for the attack; it was just the triggering incident.

It appears that that part of Romania hasn’t changed much since Dracula’s day.

The moral of this story is, Don't boggart the wine dude.

Lorena Bobbit as least used a knife.

That happened when we still lived in Oregon, and a local bar & restaurant's owner had about 50 of these made, to commemorate the event, and I bought one. They have a cocktail weenie floating inside the bottles.

In China, they're rumoured to be an aphrodisiac...but what isn't, in China?

“It’s a big deal in Romania. My fiancé is Romanian, and it’s one holiday I make sure I don’t forget.”

I’m actually pretty surprised to hear that. When I researched “International Women’s Day” it appeared to be pretty marxist to me. I would think that Romania would recognize such things pretty easily.

Yeah, that's exactly why it makes sense that they would celebrate it so much. It was an official holiday in the Soviet Union since the time of Lenin, so it makes sense it was celebrated in Romania from the 1940s through 1989. Once communism fell, there were more important things to worry about than whether they should cancel a holiday where you give your wife, girlfriend, or mother flowers.

The same way most Americans have no awareness of how Labor Day started, Romanians don't think about why they have a day where they give women flowers and show them appreciation.

Romanians are pretty big on days for giving gifts and flowers, particularly for women. They celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th like most of the world, but then they have their own version on February 24th (Dragobete). Then they have Martisor on March 1st where women are given special little tokens to wear. Then March 8th is Woman's day.

Any excuse to give gifts and be merry.

Excellent, thank you for the perspective. Although I had researched “International Womens’ Day” I didn’t think about how long it had been celebrated in the old Soviet States.

In addition, your drawing of the comparison to Labor Day in the US helped me understand it exactly. I appreciate you taking the time to teach me some Romanian Culture.
