Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reported dead

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, the San Antonio-Express News reported.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa, the paper reported.

According to a report, Scalia, an associate justice, arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI were involved in the investigation, the paper reported.

A federal official who asked not to be named told the paper there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes.

Scalia, the longest serving justice on the Court, was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan. He was the first Italian-American justice.

Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement confirming Scalia’s death and calling him a “man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

“He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution,” the statement said. “His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called Scalia a “champion of our liberties and a stalwart defender of the Constitution.”

Quite a shock even though he was 79. Reminds us all: Memento Moro.

Was he Breitbarted?

Most likely.

Anyone terribly confident in the accuracy of that statement? Anyone? Anyone?

“What a cruel, heartless statement. His sister is too old to be appointed and he isn’t president anyway. You Cruzobts can’t even be respectful when a great jurist passes away.”

Hey they profess love for Scalia, but that dead body makes a good prop more to them.

I predict the SC nominee to be Eric Holder.

He was 79. Father Time probably caught up with him, as he does with all of us eventually.

Cornball will say he is doing what the Texans sent him to Washington to do. If they want justices delayed, they should have voted for Steve Stockman, he can say. People in TX won’t understand what happened.

Good thing Republicans now control the Senate, which has to confirm any SC nominee.

Now just stall for 10 months until Republicans regain the WH.

You really trust McClame & company? They've given Jughead everything he's wanted & more...

This is the worst news we could get...

Donald Trump told Mark Halperin yesterday that his sister, a federal judge, would be a “phenomenal” Supreme Court justice. He also said that “we will have to rule that out now, at least.”

If you have a problem with me quoting Trump, well... deal with it.

Too late. Soetoro, Moo, and ValJar had fried mountain oysters that first evening after the third attempt at the swearing in in 2009.

I wouldn’t think there have been very many Supreme Court justices confirmed during an election year.

Once gun confiscation becomes legal we can start shooting liberals in the streets until they’re gone.

It’s actually a win - win.
