Most on here know by now I am supporting Marco Rubio for the Republican nominee.
In the process I am finding some rather remarkable talking points that are completely useless.
1. Voting for anyone other than Trump or Cruz will cause a permanent democratic majority. This is nonsense and anyone that has participated in this process knows it. 2. Some how Cruz can over come his 'likability' issue in the U.S. Senate and even in his home state (I am a Texan) 3. That Donald Trump really is a conservative. Nonsense. He is totally unpredictable. And really could implode in a General Election Has unfavorably ratings higher than Clinton. 4. Not voting is a valid position to take if Trump or Cruz are not the nominee. That somehow it will show them a lesson or will in the long run help the conservative movement. Hello President Obama. 5. That millions of evangelical Christians and far right conservatives will raise up to support Ted Cruz. I hope I a wrong about this, but it is nonsense in my opinion. Many evangelicals don't vote because of their world view, they just don't think it matters and the earth's days are number anyway. Far right conservatives that 'really' don't vote are not that many. I know there are plenty on this site, but that really is not that many. 6. The immigration issue will hurt us in the General Election. Only if we take such a hard line as Trump that we lose the entire Hispanic vote.
I have a real problem with folks who believe that not voting is an illegitimate choice (regardless of the reason). It is certainly legitimate, although it should certainly be a rare tactic.
The republican party has elected to select candidates numerous times on the basis of "not being as bad" as the democrat, ignoring the expressed will of their base for a more conservative choice. The rationale for browbeating anyone reticent to support the nominee (for whatever reason) is that lack of support is explicit support for the other side. In effect, the voters are being told they are not allowed to have any form of minimum standards beyond an R next to the candidate name.
Why should any conservative support a party who tells them to go screw themselves so often, and almost always says it more strongly on important issues? "We're not as bad" is not a valid reason. Slow poisoning is just as deadly as fast.
Hang in there! In a month or 2 it will all be over and sanity will resume it normal sway here at FR.

Trump is bold but he is a god unto himself, completely unpredictable and unprincipled. His scorn for Republicans is well documented and maybe not unjustified (if we keep buying him).
I agree with you on California. What we seem to miss is that Hispanics are growing number even legally in the U.S. Their families are twice the size as an average Caucasian family. Hispanics are natural republicans when it comes family values and free trade. If we where not so insane about legal immigration then we would do well. I am solid against amnesty but I know some way forward has to be articulated. Trump does not have a clue. Cruz is a machine that tell constituents what they want to hear. I am from Texas and have known him a long time. He is not nearly as electable as people think in a national election, even though I supported him and voted for him here in Texas. I don’t think he can win.
No I am not ok with this. At all. But I do think Rubio can learn. He is a gifted politician. They are all politicians and none can be fully trusted. He has the most upside when it comes to expanding the base. Something that has to happen if we are going to win.
I support Cruz, but believe that any of candidates except John Ellis Bush can easily defeat HRC. She is a very weak candidate.
So long as he's not named "Bush," he'll get my vote in the general election should he be the nominee.
I actually think he might make a good VP selection, although I'm sure that's not your priority right now.

I disagree. The only thing that holds us together at here at FR is an obviously tenuous sense of taste, not underlying principles.
Did you see where Rubio went into a different do-loop re the difficulty in raising kids? By the time he got to the part, ‘ down our throats,’ he realized his record was skipping again. He bravely soldiered through to the end of the quote, though, (which in this case he had completed less than a minute before his needle skipped back, and he had to run through the whole spiel again).
It must be some form of OCD, or perhaps a non-profane version of Tourettes.

The one thing I do know is that I’m not buying what you’re selling. Rubio is the (R) Obama. He will NOT get my vote!

If you followed the Texas Senate election you would have known Cruz won by one of the biggest margins ever. What likability issue does he have here? None, except for old David DoWorst and Bush fans.
His ‘likability’ in the Senate is why we sent him there.

With Hillary, it's game over. With whatever Republican, there's a chance we survive another 4-8 years until the next politician du'jour could take a swing at fixing things.
It may be too late regardless. We need bold changes. Trump or Cruz first, then the second tier folks.
Enforce the law - that is the only alternative. If not, all is lost. Rubio advocates surrender - not an appealing policy to me.
