Nobody actually uses the sidewalks but it is frequently a city ordinance to shovel your walk. Not having a walk in front of your house is considered a perk.

In most localities, the owner is legally required to clear snow from the sidewalk in front of his property and not throw it into the street. Enforcement varies.

Nobody actually uses the sidewalks In New York City, where I grew up, everybody uses the sidewalk. In some neighborhoods few people shoveled in others everyone did.

Ok I get it ... the law out here is the same...
You are responsible for the sidewalk in front of your property ...even though you don't own the sidewalk in front of your property
Just did not ever think about snow because never had snow

A very skillfully executed photoshop. I’ve seen even more sophisticated gifs than this on Imgur recently.

I do a lot of walking and I see this type of thing very often. In fact, I have even called out a couple of SEIU morons for this exact thing. They don’t like it when you show them their own hypocrisy!

“Nobody actually uses the sidewalks ...”
Actually that’s not really true. I do and many dog walkers do have to walk their dogs daily, regardless of the weather. In addition, my neighborhood has a couple of wheelchair bound folks and I always feel guilty if I don’t get the walk shoveled before their tire marks are left in the snow....

I live in a small town (20,000 people). Sidewalks are used extensively. The city ordinance requires walks to be cleared of snow within 24 hours. People with snow blowers are usually pretty good about clearing the walks in front of homes of elderly people or invalids.

In NYC and a lot of other places, you “own” the sidewalk but the City has an easement. You not only have to allow transit, you are responsible for facilitating it.

I suspect the sign was there before the snow... notice: no trail from house to sign.

In most communities- people shovel as a courtesy- in some communities shovel or get fined - I believe Chicago is the shovel or get fined type
