Bernie Sanders: You have families out there paying 6, 8, 10 percent on student debt but you can refinance your homes at 3 percent. What sense is that?

Bernie, You can't repossess a college education. And considering the quality of some of them, attempting to repossess one would be like repossessing a house where the owners plugged up the sewer pipes on the way out.

I still can’t decide if Sanders really believes stuff like this... I do think he believes this. The collateral is all the OTHER peoples money. Why is that such a bad thing?

The really stupid part is, even if student loans were financed at 1/2%, college costs would be too high, and therefore people would end up with an unsustainable DEBT load (regardless of the interest rate).

If you cannot afford to pay back the principal (or it will be a real struggle), the rate of interest is not relevant.

Interesting. He’s right but what would he, as president, do about it? Seeing as how all student loans are through the ACA there’s not much to be done unless he’s also advocating changing the ACA.
