If Trump wins the nomination, prepare for the end of the conservative party
Washington Post ^ | December 23 | George Will

Posted on 12/25/2015 8:53:46 AM PST by RC one

If Trump wins the nomination, prepare for the end of the conservative party (According to the bastion of Conservatism, George Will)

If you look beyond Donald Trump’s comprehensive unpleasantness — is there a disagreeable human trait he does not have? — you might see this: He is a fundamentally sad figure. His compulsive boasting is evidence of insecurity. His unassuageable neediness suggests an aching hunger for others’ approval to ratify his self-admiration. His incessant announcements of his self-esteem indicate that he is not self-persuaded. Now, panting with a puppy’s insatiable eagerness to be petted, Trump has reveled in the approval of Vladimir Putin, murderer and war criminal.

Putin slyly stirred America’s politics by saying Trump is “very . . . talented,” adding that he welcomed Trump’s promise of “closer, deeper relations,” whatever that might mean, with Russia. Trump announced himself flattered to be “so nicely complimented” by a “highly respected” man: “When people call you brilliant, it’s always good.” When MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said Putin “kills journalists, political opponents and invades countries,” Trump replied that “at least he’s a leader.” Besides, Trump breezily asserted, “I think our country does plenty of killing also.” Two days later, Trump, who rarely feigns judiciousness, said: “It has not been proven that he’s killed reporters.”

Well. Perhaps the 56 journalists murdered were coincidental victims of amazingly random violence that the former KGB operative’s police state is powerless to stop. It has, however, been “proven,” perhaps even to Trump’s exacting standards, that Putin has dismembered Ukraine. (Counts one and two at the 1946 Nuremberg trials concerned conspiracy to wage, and waging, aggressive war.)

He's also rehearsed his calm, righteous indignant look.

I think that might be his pink camo Barbara Boxer thong...

Here's the thing Will and other establishment GOP types don't get - Trump is willing to unashamedly champion the views of conservative voters in this country. He doesn't worry about staying on the good side of Beltway media, and he isn't embarrassed by the conservative base in this country - and that's why he's winning.

Will and other GOP-E folks are far closer to Beltway Democrats than they are to heart-land conservatives.

If Trump wins the nomination and the GOP crashes. Then let it. It proves that most of the Republican party are no different than the communists Democratic party. If Trump is not elected President then the hell with both parties and time for a real revolution. America would be finished and a restart needed.

George Couldn’t-Be-Bothered-To-Look-Into-Whitewater Will looks into the depravity of the American electorate and finds alarming antagonism towards more-of-the-same.

At least he’s awake, now. Lord knows the blatant murder of Vince Foster couldn’t do it.

What in hell is the ‘Conservative’ Party?

The infernal Republicrat Party should be replaced by a combination of the Tea Party and the Oath Keepers.

Sorry George, Conservatism is alive and well. However; blue-blooded, Rockefeller, country club Republicanism is in trouble.

The masses are on to the fact that you only care about not being embarrassed in front of the liberals on cocktail circuit. You have squandered all of the goodwill built by the Reagan years and the people now loathe you.

Good job!

Conservative party? Really? Where is it George Will?
I've been looking for a conservative party for at least two decades?
Show me where it is?

Nice try, WaPo.

Try getting an education in your next life.

Education means NOT journalism or “studies” of any kind.

Difficult to believe the WaPo really has so much solicitude for “conservatives” of ANY stripe, given their past expressions of loathing and disrespect.

The Donald is much more libertarian than “conservative”, but he IS a patriot, a designation given even shorter shrift than merely “conservative”. Not urbane and sophisticated to be “patriotic” doncha know. That is for rubes and hicks.

Well, guess what, the rubes and hicks, many of whom have not believed their opinions have held much weight with Washington, are out in force, some to be voting this time for the first time in years, if not for the first time ever.

The Donald is motivating the so-called “low-information” voters who have been silent for years, to speak out.

It’s gonna be an avalanche, Blanche.

Old, bespectacled George doesn’t seem to understand that republican no longer = conservative and often gets confused. We do expect to see the republican party to exist no longer. As for Conservatism...my she always live in the hearts of true Americans.

Bravo. George Will used to be a conservative, but since he has been purchased by beltway special interests, he is now an arrogant windbag, worthy of derision but little notice.

If Trump wins the nomination, prepare for the end of both the Democrat and Republican establishment. And for a very VOCAL “no longer silent, silent middle class” which they fear.

In the old days on ABC This Week, George used to use clear, principled arguments against Cookie and the other fools.

I am not sure what he has been doing in the last 10 years - but he really has started loosing it.

I just had a nasty thought about Trump. I think he will win despite all their efforts.
And he will make control of a congress where the Dems will despise him for taking down Hillary the way he will.
The GOP, all but a handful, will hate him for ruining their uniparty game.

The first time he does the -sightest- thing they can use, they will impeach him and remove him.

It will either be this or some electoral college monkeyshines to “save the country”. Remember they are not legally obligated to follow the vote.

This could be a very dirty time ahead for us. It has happened in many other countries and it can happen here. Stay prepared for anything.

This guy is protecting his self appointed brand and has much to lose with a Trump presidency. Remember George Will threw a dinner party for Obama in his honor after he was elected - why in the hell would any real conservative trust him or his messaging?
