No arguing his love for socialism. He’s a very outspoken socialist.
His role in Microsoft operations is nonexistent. He works with Satya Nadella as a technical adviser, but he’s not been hands on in a long time. Many credit Nadella’s excision of Gates from the hard technical realm as the reason for their recent successes.
Thanks for the ping.
I've long wondered why no one has produced and distributed Unix-style man pages for Windows. Even if they only covered the utilities callable from the command line; that's still a lot of useful info.
I guess everybody is like me and puts up with the stupid "/?" minimalist "usage" stuff.
not only your banking info, but your WIFI password as well, and will “share” the WIFI password with others....Not good. I suggest everybody go to a secure Linux Distro or an Apple OS. (And Apple may cave in the future, so that’s Iffy).

$23, with free shipping on orders over $35. It's a nice mouse, and you won't have to waste more time.
Thanks for all your help. I may have more questions in the future! Have a great weekend.
In Powershell you can use ‘get-help’ on any function or cmdlet. I’m also very fond of ‘gcm’ or ‘get-command.’ You can feed it a wildcarded string or pipe from it (e.g. ‘gcm *disk*’).
While I agree it’s not as convenient as a manpage, Windows wasn’t designed to be a CLI OS. There’s always Google University.

Hiding that update seems to have worked for me. At least it has not returned yet. Many thanks.
I'm glad it worked.
You have until July 29th, 2016 to change your mind and install Win 10 as a free update.
you’re welcome- ran across the problem myself- had to look it up- it should remain hidden so that it won’t be reinstalled I believe- (Although I’m not usre how automatic updates would handle it- perhaps auto updates install all ‘recommended’ updates regardless of beign hidden- but I’m not sure- I have my updates set to manual
This morning, that KB3035583 is now showing up as an *important* update. Good thing I turned auto-update off!
These guys are really starting to push Win10 a little too hard now for my taste.
there are some more updates that act like spyware you should probably uninstall and hide as well- but do some research into them first to see if they are actually important, or just more ms nonsense- These wrre posted in another windows 10 thread- the updates are
3068708
3022345
3075249
3080149
I closed the update manager without selecting any updates (that KB3035583 was the only “important” update showing today). Yet, when I shut down my computer this afternoon, Win7 went into the “Installing update 1 of 1. Please do not shut down computer” routine.
I shut off auto updates two weeks ago! And I can only imagine which “update” was installed today. I’ll probably get another Win10 update message first thing when I log in tomorrow.
This is really getting to be too much. My extreme dislike of MS is becoming disgust. I paid for my Win7, and I’m happy with it, and do not want Win10. So why can’t they just leave me alone already?
hmm- I uninstalled the update, then hid it, and only do manual updates myself- and haven’t had it reinstall on me, but I haven’t done any updates recently either- maybe it will happen to me too I don’t know
That’s what I did also, thanks to your advice — uninstalled the update, hid it, and turned off auto-update. This morning I went to Control Panel and did a manual update check. Only one “important” update showed up. But before I initialized the download, it occurred to me that the patch number was vaguely familiar. Googling, I found it was that dreaded KB3035583 file again. This time under the guise of an *important* update.
With auto-updates off, and not having selected the file for download, I should have been fine. But upon shutting down today, some one file was auto-updating against my wishes. We both know what that file is.
So watch out. Seems they figure to have exhausted their pool of the less savvy, and now are pulling tricks to target the rest of us. How else can my auto-update-off status suddenly go to “Installing update 1 of 1. Please do not turn off your computer”?
Ridiculous! Frankly, I’m feeling violated at this point. I’ve done everything in my power NOT to install Win10. They are determined to force it upon me despite my wishes.
They are insistent on making Win10 the ObamaCare of OSes.
To any MS employees out there: I paid for Win7, I’m very happy with Win7, it’s almost as good as XP. But I don’t want Win10! I’ve done all in my power to avoid it, and now you’re overriding my auto-update-off switch, which is sinister. PLEASE JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!
there might be a class action lawsuit against MS- I don’t know for sure- but they are stepping over the line
I’ll give what you did a try and see if it does the same thing (I have RollbackRX so I can do a complete rollback and get rid of the update if it updates on me- fantastic program by the way)
If I don’t answer back to this thread- just ping me-
