A walk around the office can reverse vascular dysfunction caused by hours at a computer

Across the country, many employees are seated at desks for the majority of an eight-hour workday. As technology creates an increase in sedentary lifestyles, the impact of sitting on vascular health is a rising concern. Now, researchers have found that when a person sits for six straight hours, vascular function is impaired -- but by walking for just 10 minutes after a prolonged period of sitting, vascular health can be restored.

That’s quite impressive. Do you happen to have any links to help others to build a 10÷-minute routine as well?

Get up and walk around every hour. Never sit still for more than an hour.

I do that! Every hour or so I get up to relieve myself and get another beer! Got to keep the muscles from atrophing!

49th floor. I couldn’t do it! Have become afraid of elevators in later years and only ride one going 3 floors max. Neat to have access to different restaurants though. We have a little fridge and microwave upstairs but there’s really nowhere to sit and eat in peace and quiet except the break room.

I just turned OLD over a period of a year and I am in agony. Rheumatoid is kickin in like crazy especially neck and shoulders. Sleeping is torture.

There is a big market for what you have described. When you get your site up, give us the link. There are lots of free sites to use.

I’ve been at my job for 14 years, twice as long as any other job I’ve ever had, and it’s starting to wear on me. I have no future here. I’ve hit a wall, and I just feel desperate, but don’t know where to jump. I’m a creative type, draw, write, etc., and I’d rather go in that direction, but my wife would kill me because there is no guarantee of income.

Will that be good enough?

That depends on what she looks like.

Use the stairs, not the elevator.

My two damaged ACLs would disagree with you there.

Agree. I'm basically a retired couch potatoe, but recently started on a treadmill and do some resistance training 3 times a week. I'm nowhere buff, but it has lowered my blood pressure, weight, and my tryclicerides and stop my quick decline as my Doctor warned against. I was on the home stretch, but through moderate exercise, I'm bounced back.

Had an episode a year ago that was not looking good. My Doctor gave me a year or two before the cardiac arrest or stroke. Followed his age old recommendation of exercise, healthy eating, and low calorie intake. I'm 65 and feel like a 63 year old man...har.

Interestingly, when I told him at the time I drink a pint of rum every other day, he said that studies have shown alcohol to dilute the blood and lesson the occurrence of blood clots. So now I'm a drunk and may have to deal with a failing liver. However, I get tested for my liver enzymes once a year and they are normal. I attribute that to taking Milk Thistle for years. It's a prescribed herb in Europe.

Now I only need to deal with the loss of brain n-n-neuropeons.

"I created a tool called a mobility bar to facilitate the performance of all 20 exercises in a compact space in a persons home."

Can you explain that mechanism here and possibly show the design or do you need to go to Freepmail?

I use a treadmill 3x a week at a fast inclined walk for 20mins to warm up. Also do resistance training to keep the muscles from atrophy and build calcium to strengthen the bones. All together: treadmill, pull-downs from a univeral in-home gym, and free weights. If you've got something that can do all that, let's talk. I could be your financier. :)

I worked alot higher than that in the Twin Towers :(

When we had that blackout about 10 years ago, we had to walk the 49 floors.

I got lucky and the express bus to staten island was right there :)

I got home, had some pieces of KFC that were still good, laid in the dark, and it was the most peaceful night i can remember :)

God’s plan for aging

Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His wisdom God decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things thus doing more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made seniors lose coordination so they would drop things requiring them to bend, reach & stretch.
And God looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have additional calls of nature requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing more exercise. God looked down and saw that it was good.

So if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it’s God’s will. It is all in your best interest even though you mutter under your breath.

Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older

#9 Death is the number 1 killer in the world.
#8 Life is sexually transmitted.
#7 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
#6 Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they can’t tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich.
#5 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won’t bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.
#4 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.
#3 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
#2 In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.
#1 Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.

Don’t ignore this message. This is your only warning.
