Nearly one-third of American adults, if alive during the Holocaust, would refuse to shelter a Jew from the Nazis, a recent poll found.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the poll was conducted as part of a unique marketing ploy to promote the digital release of Return to the Hiding Place, which tells the story of a group of Christians who hid Jews during World War II. [ ]
Barna Research conducted the poll, asking 1,000 Americans to think back to World War II when Jews in Europe were forced into concentration camps and many were killed by the Nazis. [ ]
Sixty-nine percent said they would agree to risk their lives to hide Jews, while 31 percent said they would not.

Last sentences are interesting:
According to an analysis of the data, males were more likely than females to shelter Jews, as were married people and homosexuals over singles and heterosexuals, respectively.
In addition, religious people were more likely to answer yes than secular people, as were Southerners over those from the Northeast.
I know a pair of Lesbians who are very conservative who have said that it might come to hiding Jews and Christians before it is all over.
Wow, I love these stories of heroism during the holocaust. Where can I learn more of this story. I am sure there are many more that have not been told yet.
And that is why this exists..
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
During WW II, the 275 Jews of the Greek island of Zakynthos, however, survived when the island’s mayor, Carrer, was presented with the German order to hand over a list of Jews, Metropolitan Bishop Chrysostomos of Zakynthos returned to the Germans with a list of two names; his and the mayor’s. They did this assuming they would be executed. They were executed.
There are multiple articles about what happened then.
What a sad statement about Americans.
“I know a pair of Lesbians who are very conservative who have said that it might come to hiding Jews and Christians before it is all over.”
That would make an interesting plot twist for a movie.

The % that actually helped was probably less than one percent {or there would never have been 6 million Jews butchered while most germans pretended to "know nothing" like sgt. shultz}.
It’s easy to say what one would do in that situation with the benefit of hindsight, and from the comfort of their current situation.
I think very few have any idea how they would respond in such a situation. I’ll take a huge grain of salt with anyone who says they would have resisted the Nazis had they been in that situation.
I think the Milgram Experiment revealed a lot about how people would act.
Totally agree, that’s why I thought the question kind of offensively meaningless.
Americans today have utterly no idea what Americans of 70 and 80 years ago went through, with the Depression, the dustbowl, and WW2. Even those events are arguably lightweight compared to having a brutal, invading army take over your country, station themselves anywhere they wish, take whatever they want, and kill whomever they want while people you have known and seen for years are starving to death in the streets.
I' bet that most of that 31% are democRATs/socialists/Marxists.

I’m pretty sure I’m with you.
Everything else being equal I’d rather be running arms to those willing and able to defend themselves than providing shelter to same.
What was the concentration camp that had the revolt? Sobibor?
1/3rd said they wouldn’t help.
2/3rds said they WOULD.
There are 330 million Americans. Extrapolate that to the entire population. The number is, at face value, uplifting.
