There is a reason why Maximillian Kolbe is saint. I am amazed at the heroism of so many people during the Holocaust. Volunteering to die in another person's place at Auschwitz is almost beyond comprehension. I am also not surprised by the story of a pastor who's church happened to be along the railroad tracks for the trains going to Auschwitz. The trains tended to slow up right by his church and the screams and cries for help began to disrupt the service. He instructed the choir to sing louder so they wouldn't have to hear the people trapped on the trains. I tend to think that without divine intervention I too would be a singer in the choir. So I completely agree people have no idea what they would ever do in that situation.
