Despite accounts to the contrary, Pike County Commissioner and Marine veteran Richard Caridi never served in Vietnam.

In the heart of political season, papers have surfaced detailing his record of service in the Marines.

Caridi is running for reelection as a Republican Pike County commissioner....

Caridi says he actually served an additional two years...that his records list this time of active duty as “other.” He said there was a reason it was listed as “other” and that it had to do with a “certain level of clearance” that he had.

Right here on FreeRepublic, back in 2008, many were also claiming Vietnam heroics for Ron Paul.

Contacting Paul’s campaign for correction of those claims also was fruitless as he too never issued any actual corrections to the bogus claims.

Or like a lot of folks that served during that time their records read “vietnam era” ..... me ...I was TDY twice for 30 days each time but never PCS permanent party..... 72-96 retired USAF/EOD. Thus I’m on record (DD214) as a served during vietnam era troop.

Not knowing this guy if presstitutes / socialist polidiots are after him they could be using this “ERA” to mean served “IN” Vietnam......

But if proof exists he said “in vietnam” versus during vietnam then piss on the poseur ..... my opinion from here on the couch !!

I read the article. He never claimed to have served in Viet Nam, and in the comments several long time acquaintances say that they have never heard him claim to have been in Viet Nam. This comes out in a liberal rag during election season, he is a Republican... Sounds like a witch hunt by the commie newspaper to me.

I can remember when telling anyone that you served in Vietman got you an angry, self-righteous lecture and maybe a facefull of spit.

I guess it’s nice to have some poor shmoes pretending to have been with us - a step up from what it used to be.

Simple test: if somebody claims to have been a grunt in Vietnam, ask him to show you where he got hit: all the grunts I knew ( counting me) have a nice collection of holes in their bodies.
