Society has fallen.

Since when in America is it a right to hit someone's vehicle with a football??? If you move to Hartselle, Alabama it is a right here. Boys playing sports trump any kind of property rights (hitting vehicles and houses, breaking windows, tearing up people's lawns). And don't you dare say anything to the parent as their response is, "Our kids need to get out of the house away from video games and play sports." While I agree with that argument, they don't have to tear up people's property. Last night, I went to the father of a boy who hit my truck with a football thrown like a rocket. I made a sound like a blast. The ball hit pretty hard. The dad was on his way to work, so I was just going to let him know about the incident not take up his time. After telling the dad what happened, he yelled at me. "Did it do any damage?!?" he yelled. "No, not really," I replied. He screamed at me more, "Then what's the problem!?! Call the police!!!" This will never be resolved because no kid today ever does anything wrong. I expected that the father would say something like, "OK, I will have a talk with junior about not hitting cars." Instead, all I got was yelled at. My how society has fallen.

I once owned a real beaut of a 52 3/4 ton.

One local writer that I knew in the small town I was living in at the time described it as looking like it had survived a bombing.

It was so be-a-utiful, that when stopping at four-way stops, even police would yield;

My own looks may have enhanced the effect.

After a while, I got a newer truck. '61 C10. Rusty but trusty.

Drove down to L.A. once with a load of firewood filling the bed, about level full.

Stopped somewhere down there to get fuel, and I guess the looks of me in stained Carharts, scuffed boots, t-shirt, loose flannel over shirt, beard, along with the appearance of the truck I'd paid every bit of $300 for up in Oregon, had one of the L.A. denizens say out loud;

I was kind of shocked at first, he was some distance away, saying it loudly, and it took me a moment to catch on to his meaning. At first considering he was joking, I said something like, "well, you don't have to make fun of me, just 'cause the way I look" to which he replied,

I got a pretty good laugh out of it.

The guy walked off, shaking his head, saying, "I don't believe this..." lol

Raising Boys:

One recent Sunday, a young boy arrived to his Sunday school class late.

His teacher knew that the boy was usually very prompt and asked him if anything was wrong.

The boy replied no, that he was going to go fishing, but his dad told him he needed to go to church instead.

The teacher was very impressed and asked the boy if his father had explained to him why it was more important to go to church rather than to go fishing.

To which the boy replied, “Yes, ma’am, he did. My dad said that he didn’t have enough bait for both of us.”

“Back then cars were made to withstand a little abuse. Cars of today get dented and fall apart if looked at cross eyed.”

I had my black Jaguar for 16 years. When it wouldn’t go anymore, i bought a Hyundai Elantra in 2009. Gets great gas milage and I call it my “plastic” car. Not much metal on the outside of car. It gets me where I’m going and that’s all I care about these days. All cars look like boxes now and can’t really tell them apart - the Jags are also boxes now.

Yep, they even ruined the Jags. It took them 60 years.

Fences make for good neighbors. High fences make for even better neighbors. Clean out the garage and park your vehicles inside where they can’t be hit by kids.

This behavior from kids and parents has been going on for years. Thirty years ago, I parked on a shared private drive off the street. That didn’t matter to the neighbor kids who would ride their bikes from across the street to trespass onto our drive and crash into the vehicles. The parents acted like the damage was my fault. I moved within 3 months.

I’ll trade your footballer for a house of illegals renting next door to me driving their POS vans down the side yard and turning it into a mudpit. At one point forcing me after two martini’s to abandon my normal ladylike presence to go out on the porch and scream the “F” word at them until they got the van off our side of the yard and Mr. GG2 put iron rods out.

See now the footballer doesn’t seem so much like fallen society compared to me does it? :-)

If you had no damage, an appropriate action would have been to ask the kids to move their game if you couldn’t move your truck.

Then, if they mouthed off, speak to their parents.

Approaching a father on his way to work when no damage was done is overkill. His statement telling you to call the police makes that pretty clear.

Your statement about how America has ‘fallen’, using this as an example, makes it even more clear.

This is proof of nothing except that kids are clumsy and adults are in a rush in the morning.

It is also proof that no one likes to be cornered or ambushed by a neighbor wanting to talk about how their truck wasn’t damaged, and “What are you gonna do about the non-damage?”

Some were water guns, some BB guns, some nerf guns, and then some toy guns. She also gave him BBs for his BB guns.

You had better call in the SWAT team. Several of them.

I began finding BBs in my front beds, around my driveway, and in front of my door.

You have good eyesight and should call an EOD team in to clear the area.

I did not know what to do after seeing that.

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles; scream and shout.

Respect for other’s property is vanishing.

Years ago I kept a basketball goal on the cul de sac at the edge of my property for my kids and the neighbor’s kids to use.

After time the kids lost interest and a bit later a group of older kids from farther away in the neighborhood started using it and leaving their soda cans and snack trash in my yard.

I went out the next day and told the kids they were welcome to use the goal so long as they picked up their trash.

That worked out well for two days. When the trash showed up again I moved the goal to the backyard.

Stupid kids.

If there was no damage to your truck or your property, you probably should have not brought it to the father. I’d be irritated with you, too.

Are the kids old enough to go to a school yard to play football (12 years old or older)? Is there a school yard near by for them to play in? It’s really good they are not sitting in front of the video games and tv.

Kids do need land to play on. The yards are so small now. That’s sad. My sons grew up on five acres in the middle of the woods, so they did not have a problem like this. All the kids played out there. Thank You, God!
