Some early adopters of a new Samsung phone have said the device's stylus suffers from a design flaw.
The S-Pen stylus for Galaxy Note 5 models can be stored within the body of the phone, but when inserted upside down it appears to snag on an internal mechanism.
Users have reported that when the stylus is then forcibly removed it can damage the S-Pen, the Note 5, or both.
Samsung said users should follow the instruction manual.
The stylus should be inserted by the pointed end first and is designed to fit snugly into the Note 5 handset via a spring-loaded mechanism.
However, it can also be inserted upside down but can jam when in this position.
Tech news website Android Police has reported that removal of the wrongly inserted stylus caused a detection feature for the S-Pen to stop working permanently.

Apple reports flaw in the iphone. Shoving it in to environments it is not intended to be in causes it to stop functioning.
Ping for ThunderSleeps, Shadow Ace, and Dayglored for your lists. . .
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Sound like this could have used some fool proofing.
Have had a Note 3 for about 3 years and it is fabulous.
It’s not possible to insert the stylus upside down in this model.
Inserting things incorrectly is apparently a critical problem to Apple users.
Perhaps that is why Tim Cook is CEO.
What are you talking about, Crazieman?
This is a Samsung ANDROID phone and Apple has nothing to do with it. It is a flaw that anyone who uses the phone could accidentally make that will destroy a major feature of the phone and many are finding it makes many of the functions of the phone unusable.
How in hell do you get an attack on Apple out of this article?
What idiot didn’t make the back end too big to fit into the slot should be fired.
Compounding your asshat error and insanity? What has this to do with Apple????? Try READING THE HEADLINE or the ARTICLE, Crazieman. . .
Duh. You’re the resident Apple Fanboy.
Duh, I post something and that give you free reign to post anti-Apple FUD all over the thread, regardless of the subject or its relevance to Apple? That is the definition of being a member in good standing of the anti-Apple Hate Brigade. . . YOU are an asshat and insane. You didn't even bother to read the HEADLINE before you dove in with both guns blazing and spreading your insane FUD and lies. It did not matter whether the topic was true, false, or even on Apple, you hate Apple so much you just blasted away! It must really be sad to be you. . . get a rational mind. . .
You, who glom on to every minor defect in a non-Apple device and post it proudly and obsessively, yet aren’t the insane and obsessive one.
Got it.
Que the Apple-hating trolls (aka - a$$hole squad)
I don’t hate Apple at all.
I hate the smug, self-satisfied, intolerant, obsessive, kneejerk fanboys.
Look, asshat, I posted it to warn user about the defect so that the don't destroy their devices. I pinged ThunderSleeps, the keeper of the Android Ping List, Shadow Ace, the keeper of the Tech Ping list, and DayGloRed, the keeper of the Windows Ping list, so that they could let their members know about the flaw as well, because some of their members may also have bought this popular phone.
Until YOU stupidly poked your asshat nose in, I was going to leave it to them, after I had warned the people on the Apple Mac Ping list who possibly had purchased one of these devices and go on to other things, but YOU, a member of the Anti-Apple Hate Brigade, had to be an asshat and try to make it somehow about Apple. . . you are insane.
Remember how I spanked you when you snarked in the New Horizons’ thread when it had a fatal software error days prior to Pluto’s arrival?
Yeah? That was good timing, wasn’t it? Sure didn’t involve name-brand software there, but you shoved your nose in to it, didn’t you?
Obsessive, thin skinned, software-religious asshat.
I’ve had one of these for a few months now. I only got it because of my poor eyes and this thing is huge. It’s OK, but I actually liked my Droid X better.
No, frankly I don't remember you "spanking" me about any such thing. You may think you did. . . You are a legend in your own mind. Strikes me that New Horizons has done fine.
Who would put the stylus in backwards. You would think feeling the pointy end on your finger would be a clue not to this.
Like I said, his advice ping was specifically to Apple people purchasing a Note 5. They have issues with inserting things wrong.
